Crank Seal Manufacturer?

Does anyone know who the original manufacturer of the crank seals is please?
I am about to het both front and rear ones done as the front one is leaking and the rear is being dismantled to replace the DMF/Clutch & slave cylinder so it just makes sense to do the seal at the same time.
The O.E parts ( ‘04L 103 151 A’ and 04L 103 171) are £120 & £157 each from main dealers, whereas on Autodoc they top out at £68.
I would like the best quality possible but that doesn’t always equate to price…..
Ta.

Hi Jules,

sorry I don't have the answer to your question. However I'm interested (I have a 20 plate, 67.1 DSG and am alarmed at the amount of failures I'm hearing about) what the mileage is on your van?

Thanks,

Fraz

I suspect the VW Accountants drive the Buyers to purchase the cheapest that meets specification at the time.
It may not be the seal that’s failing at the free end, more likely the unstable plastic housing that causes the seal to pass oil.

Even if you were to identify the manufacturer there is no guarantee that the item sold under their own name will be the same quality as the ones they supply to the manufacturer.

I am at 107k now. I should clarify that the front has had a v small leak since 60k - my rear seal is unconfirmed but the symptoms indicate that there is a small leak which may be contaminating the clutch. I’ve been using it like this for about 20k now…
It all depends on severity and what you can live with. In my case the rear seal is rarely replaced and the front seal gives so much warning that you can leave it for ages.
