Conversion

Hi, I'm a newbie looking to convert a T6. My question is which make model T6 is best for conversion (Panel or Kombi/model?) plus any recommendations for conversion companies? Thanks all.

IMO its a bit subjective, it depends on what end result you are looking to achieve.
Definitely think going with a highline model would be good as this gives you plenty of features as standard : Heated front windscreen, Alarm, Aircon, Foglights, Multi function steering wheel etc etc
If it was me I think I would go for a panel van otherwise you are paying for extra seats that you arent going to use but you wont have rear windows which you will want to put in so depends which works best for you
I would have a serious think about the options list and have a good read through the forums before hand, LED headlights are pricey but look amazing and everyone loves them, you may want to consider auxiliary heater or things like this which may only be available on the Kombi, that could sway your decision.
If it helps information on all T6 vans currently available is in the resources section on this forum http://www.t6forum.com/resources/
Here you will find full price lists, model by model specs and differences along with options lists and costs - may help to compare, they can be downloaded/printed if you need
@Walski is a good man to talk to hes already had his done so should be able to give his take on it

Hi @teddy, just finished my conversion, I went for a T30 140bhp SWB Highline Panel with DSG. Also tailgate rather than barn doors at the back. The T30 is said to be the best base, if you get a T28 (depending on conversion) you can get close to 2.8 tonnes by the time your fully loaded. SCA roof and Cali bed heavy due to quality of structure. Highline gives you some great speed as standard as @Pauly calls out.

My advice would be to visit a few shows and speak to some of the convertors. Find ones you like the quality of their work, do some online research and then get yourself a shortlist of 2 or 3 and then go and visit each one's Workshop facilities and team. Once you've decided who to use speak to them about what van they prefer.... Some I spoke to say get a Kombi as it has factory side windows etc others say get a panel as they prefer to work from scratch.

Your location and budget make suggesting convertors difficult but I'd massively recommend my guy Ed at Celtic Motorhomes near Cardiff. First rate work and a great guy.... I challenge you to find anything but great feedback on him online!!!
Let me know if I can help further or you have any specific questions..... Let us know how you get on.

@BiTurbo have you checked out the media section/tab at the top ?
This can be used as a dumping ground for photos, would be great if you made an album and uploaded all your conversion pictures there, walski organised his into a build story but if you don't have time would be great to just see them (pretty please :) )

Woops, yes you are correct...... Just head lamp wash no wipe. Sorry

@teddy
Did you make a decision yet on what base model to use, did you speak to any convertors ?

Headlamp washers are included with the LED Headlamp / Rear Lamp package. They should not have charged you extra. If they did go get your money back ;=)

We have ordered a Kombi as a base vehicle because it comes with so many bits that you would want and because it already has an improved level of sound deadening. of course we have then ticked a lot of boxes to get the spec up.

The current plans for conversion are;

As soon as it arrives in December it is off to CMC to get a Reimo Variotech 3000 seat fitted.

In January it will go to Premium Camper in Cornwall for a Cali roof and possibly Dibond furniture install.

On the way to Cornwall we will call into Absolut5 to fit a Pioneer and better cones.

Somewhere along the way it will get tracker, CAK water tank, mains hook up and an Erebspracher D2.

Hi Pauly. Spoke to a converter thru their website who recommended a T30 panel van. Off to Busfest to see the convertors and which ever one the wife likes we will go with them. Then I'm going to choose my alloys. Going into this with my eyes wide shut so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
