Hi, I’m new to the forum and would like to ask for some advice, I have a 2017 t6 150bhp 4motion LWB that I have converted into a camper.
I own a garage and also do conversions which is how I came across the van, it was a customers vehicle and the aux belt came off and went behind the timing belt destroying the engine.
Long story short he couldn’t afford a new engine so I bought the van and fitted a recon unit from euro car parts, on inspection, the flywheel and clutch were in good health so I refitted them to the new engine, after about 1000 miles while driving on the motorway in 6th gear, it lost all drive.
I removed the box and the clutch plate had been ripped into two pieces, as in the centre and the outer friction material.
I assumed the flywheel had failed so I replaced everything with oe luk parts.
Fast forward 2 months having covered about 700 further miles it has gone and done the same thing to the new clutch?
Now, I have been a mechanic for over 30 years and am a master technician and thought I’d seen it all!
The van has had a slight remap of about 30hp increase but that is it, it also runs on big bf Goodrich tyres.
I have tried to source a heavy duty clutch but can’t help thinking there is an underlying issue which is buying the hell out of me!
Was wondering if anyone has had the same issue?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the essay!
Phil.
