Charging issue

Got BM2 on starter and leisure.

Set up is:
AMT12 trickle.
Victron dc-dc charger.

Feed in: starter & amt
Feed out: leisure & amt
Negative: vehicle chassis & amt

The problem is the starter isn't being charged and I can't tell where the leisure is up to because the BM2 monitor always says "charging" no matter what I do?

Anyone got any ideas?

Post the last 7days readout from the BM2s.

(If they say charging, thats a good sign as that implys a good healthy voltage)

I hooked it up to an opitmate once I realised it wasn’t charging from the leisure, amt12 and victron ip65.
7 days of leisure to follow.

looks like the starter battery was being kept at a 12.6v float voltage (fully charged) from 17th to the 20th.

looks like a separate charger was connected ton the 20th @ 1800hrs, taking the battery to 14.0v, then dropping to 13.2v float . . .

then cycling till now.

:

so from that it looks like the AMT12 is keeping the starter charged to 12.6v/12.8v (setting adjustable) ( so working correctly)

...

it looks like the Optimate was keeping the battery very high charged voltage . . . about 13.2v.

FYI - for others.

The AMT12 is a device that will reverse charge your starter battery back from the Leisure battery.

so if you have solar etc and a decent Leisure setup . . . this unit will keep the starter charged.

more on that here:

Leisure is hooked up to ip65 all the time.
BM2 sends me notifications showing a constant drop in % on the starter?
Ignore the SOC % from the BM2 - i just switch if off in the settings.

as that unit of value is guesstimated by internal software and is a guess based on older SLA batteries.

what's important is the general trend of the voltage of the batterys. . .

you can see that your IP65 EHU charger is keeping your Leisure battery at 13.2v - constant. (which is set via the settings)

and that the AMT12 was keeping you starter battery at 12.6v - constant, which is exactly what it is supposed to do.

so there is no need to connect the Optimate to the starter, everything is working correctly.

12.6v/12.8v is perfect to float charge the starter battery . . . . it doesn't need to be over 13.0volts

...

here is a victron demo for the ip65 settings. ( you can see its float setting is 13.8 - 13.2v )

.

and the AMT12-2 shows that it will keep the starter at around 12.6v . . . so below the IP65 charger float voltage, but perfectly fine.

....

FWIW . . .

if your AMT12 wasnt connected that starter battery voltage would drop below 12.0v after a week of not driving . . . then would continue to drop in voltage till after a bout 3weeks it wont start the van.

so you can see your setup is working correctly.

(just dont pay to much attention to the Bm2 SOC reading)

as a comparison.... here is my van from yesterday.

Note the gradual drop in voltage of both battery's over the 24hr period.
