Bearing in mind I bought my camper ready made it has a Sargent EC160 panel fitted to allow for charging the onboard leisure battery in tandem with a small consumers unit for 230v power.
Thinking about it for the first time today am I right that this device will only allow for charging of the leisure battery or vehicle battery when the vans hook up cable is fed from the camp site supply and not when driving?
The painful thinking part was brought about when grappling with the dubious concept of the "smart" alternator not always providing an high enough DC voltage to charge the vehicle battery fully and logically the leisure battery.
The van has been converted by Redline and the dual passenger seat is on a swivel so no bundle of wires there and the leisure battery is installed beneath the drivers seat with the two battery leads and what I guess is an airbag pair being the only wiring under there.
Being a novice I'm wondering if a DC to DC charger could or should be introduced before the Sargent panel to blast some electric into the leisure battery while driving around?
