Carpuride units

I’ve the standard VW head unit with reversing sensor screen but no sat nav.
Looks line an additional Carpuride unit would be ideal. Especially seeing as they connect to iPhone with CarPlay.
I’m a bit lost as to the models available, 901 Pro seems a favourite.
Any others to consider? Any help appreciated.

I’ve got the W905 and am happy with it. It’s certainly not as smart as a new, fitted unit but it’s a fraction of the price and gives me reliable wireless CarPlay on a big screen which is what I wanted. I haven’t got around to fitting the rear cam.

Neither of the mounts were suitable so I used an angled MagSafe one off Amazon, sticking a MagSafe disc to the back of the unit.

I have 1 - was used in an UP (Sorry dont remember the model) it used to reboot often and needed the SD card reformatted often.

But it was exceptional Quality front and Rear Cameras Picture and Apple Car Play.

As you say brings a touch of Modern to the vehicle

Their Website also sells additional mounts and wiring looms.

Overall - 7/10 - Bought from Amazon maybe 14 months ago.

Seeing as I’m only interested in CarPlay to use Google Maps and answer messages. Think I’ll just get a cheapo off Amazon 7” is enough.

Did you hardwire the power supply

The spare fuse locations are always live. Even if no fuse.
Find one that’s ignition fed then get one of those fuses with a piggy back wire and connect that to the unit,
I got a Carpuride for my R1200 GSA bike but a £40 Amazon special for the van,
They work just as well as each other, but the Carpuride works with the BMW software and wonder wheel,

No, not really. It’s plugged into a USB socket in the dash top power socket. I’ve re-wired that socket so it’s ignition switched rather than permanently live. So the Carpuride switches on/off with the ignition but isn’t permanently/directly wired in. Magsafe phone charger is into the same socket as well. Works for me as I can leave it all connected without worrying about parasitic drain when the can isn’t in use.

Take out the dash top power socket and drop a positive cable down the dash to the lower fuse box. Connect one end to a piggy back fuse (appropriately fused) in the centre bank of the fuse box (they are switched) and then cut the positive by the power socket (make the old end safe as it will still be live and secure it so it doesn’t disappear into the dash) and join the new cable to the power socket. Replace the power socket, job done.

Getting the power socket out is a trick, there are YouTube videos if I remember correctly. Without the proper tool it is easiest with some long outward opening circles pliers that you need to use to push open 2 small tabs half way down in the socket. Make sure you’ve disconnected the battery or removed the fuse first! The metal inner will then pull up and then the outer plastic part can be removed.
