CarPlay Head Unit Upgrade

Hi all, I’m looking to enable Apple CarPlay via App Connect on my 66 plate T6. I get that we need to do this via the dealer or a 3rd party SD card, but I also understand we need a ‘special’ USB port in the first instance. I’m fairly sure I have it already, but just to confirm, does this look right to you? I think the pins are bent or even missing.

Thanks,
David

If you remove the mounting plate it should look like this

Thanks Cnud. I've sourced a replacement (as pictured) as mine was damaged as I suspected, but extracting the mounting plate out of the dash is proving to be a pain in the... Is it just a case of persevering with the pry tools until it pops out? There's really nothing online on how to remove it.

Mine was in the glovebox and popped out with a trim tool easily, so not sure on dash mounted, someone should hopefully be along with the answers

To remove the dash mounted USB socket shown in the first pic you'll need to access the back of the trim panel either by removing the glovebox to access from above or the lower glovebox to access from below. There are plastic retaining tabs top & bottom that clip it in place which a trim tool may not reach to as they're quite set back.

Thanks 64 SPLIT. I'd prefer to remove the upper glovebox to save myself from back ache. Do you know if it can be removed in isolation or does the lower glovebox also need to be removed?

There's a single screw on the underside of the upper glovebox that needs to be removed in order for it to be taken out - pretty sure this can only be accessed by dropping the lower glovebox so it may be easier just to tackle the lower one (not so easy for your back tho!)

The first bit of this YouTube video (up to about 1m30s) covers lower removal... Remove T6 Glovebox

Legend! Thank you. I removed the lower glove box and found it a fairly straight forward job. Reaching the back of the USB housing was a bit tricky as I didn’t quite have the reach. I did though, manage to feel my way to the back of the USB harness and push on that. It doesn’t take too much force to pop the housing out. Swapped out the USB and I was able to set up CarPlay via SD Card. It’s all good so far.
