Carpeting with a pop top.

Hi all,

I've had a storm pop top fitted recently and I boldly had it fitted without carpet so I could do it myself. I have to remove the bi folding bed and go around lots of holes etc. for the lights on the pop top frame work…

I am now pretty intimidated lol, has anyone else carpeted their van after having the pop top fitted ?

Any tips or opinions on the matter ?

That's a brave move.

Mine was done as part of the poptop install.

I suppose you have to unbolt the rams.

Then the hinges to remove the bed board.

Be careful of those rams.

Extremely dangerous under pressure. They normally have a c clip on the ball joint.

I had my pop top installed at the start of the conversion so opted for the unfinished option as I wanted to do lights and try a halo idea. I carpeted both the bed board and the thin ply for inside the roof itself. Best to unscrew the hydraulic rams when bed is up or pop off the little circlip at the base of the strut where it attaches to the ball.

Skyline took the bed board out for me until I had done the carpeting, then they put it back in again afterwards.

Carpeting wasn't too bad, I had been dreading it. Just make sure to keep away from the canvas with your stanley blade!

I did mine after poptop fitted. Unclip the rams with the bed up.

You can pop the lights out of the holes, and carpet over the hole, and then trim out afterwards.

My long beams were screwed in, so I could unscrew underneath, put the trim behind, screw back in, carpet back over. Gives a neat edge, and allegedly reduces squeaks.

I hope you’re not speaking from experience with the Stanley blade …. I can see how it could easily happen 😱
