Could anyone with a greater mind than mine see if this is anything to be concerned about.

Readings rang from 3.6 degrees to 5.2 degrees positive

I’m assuming it’s supposed to be near 0

Could this indicate an issue with the cams or timing belt?

How quickly it changes? On a single journey? Or from a journey to journey? Or from a month to month?

That's what I believe.

An indication of timing deviation - could be timing belt. How old is the timing belt?

In the thread below 6.6 degrees was thought to be reason for a non-starter.

It seems to changed from day to day. I’ll monitor it more. It’s hovering around 4.2 mainly. The timing was done in November 2022 by VW. No fault codes in ECU. Very odd how it’s changing as it’s not VVt

Hi i have signed up today

I have changed several and nearly impossible to hit 0.0

the closest i have had is 0.7, others 1.6 and 1.9 never happy over 2.0 i always reinstall until its close
i have researched that 0-5 degrees is safe but anything after 3 degrees is dicey

i have not seen a digital change though all the vans i check from time to time when servicing etc and the figures stay the same

Ok thank you for that advise. I have noticed a slight bit of wobble on the crank pulley so wondering if the key way in the Timing gear is wearing. May just get it all changed as the crank seal is leaking a little also

Just don'e a crank seal with belts , it's or it can be a pig of a job.
My advice is buy the Laser crank tool which doubles as a cam holding tool so 2 for 1
It's £65 on Amazon but takes 2 minutes to crack the bolt with a 19mm spline socket, I mashed it with my Makita impact, the bolt laughed at it and slightly chewed it , I placed an extension bar through the 1/2 connection and used the bracket from the power steering to hold the bar and ever so carefully and slowly it moved and came loose , new bolt from tps £5
Doesn't help that the bolt isn't completely clear of the sub frame to get an impact on there unless you drop the engine a few inches.
But not to bad with the right tool.
Do it soon if your crank pulley is moving or £££££
It's supposed to be 180nm
