Cali Equipment Experts

Hi we have a T6 Cali Ocean. had new since 2016. The VW dealers have been dire. Van dealers with no experts in all the kit fitted to a Cali. Ours is 9 years old and bits are failing but where do we take it?

Anyone know real Cali experts around West Midlands / North Wales /Cheshire?

Perhaps if you consider giving a list of things failing or coursing concern might prompt some remedy or direction of where to point you for the best.

The lifting roof is the main concern. it has started intermittently not closing properly on one side by 1/2 inch. I also need to replace the thule awning canvas as it has melted along one of the seams but we repaired. The GPS module has started to get lost more often (gen2) head unit not the software.

In the past we had warranty work with various VW dealers who ordered parts but didn't have experienced camper technical people.

I am sure there are lots of people who can tell me about stripping down a roof elevation unit and fitting a new widget but I was ideally looking for a camper guru in a workshop somewhere that I can hand the Cali over to.

Of course SMHinthewild, I understand. Plenty of camper van owners on here and some Cali owners also! So come on you guys with campers where should this gut take his California too for some TLC. Looks like he has given a wide area basically Wales and immediate surrounds preferably Mid and North wales and surrounding areas.

Hope that the combined forum minds have some good ideas. We found the Cali forum full of helpful suggestions like "did you Google" and so as I have found proper answers here before I thought we would find some help.

I look over their occasionally. I do not have a Camper but a 2019 199bhp Caravelle 4Motion with D/L see some familiar profiles occasionally and the engines and gearboxes basic chassis are the same. Slightly different feel to it though not joined just earwigged. Sometimes on here loads of answers come in such a short time at other times, well it can take a great deal longer. Some read the post s but might feel it is outside of their competence or they just want to read and go back to the TV or what ever. I no one has answered a thread I like to at least make contact maybe I can do something even if only bring it back to the top of the page. Normally if something is popular it brings in more notice and then with luck a sensible suggestion. Occasionally I feel that a newcomer might try joining in another similar sort of thread and then re asking his or her own original post that way they may receive the answer.


Their are quite a few guys out and about Europe wide at the moment also and Saturday some may need to take the Mrs out shopping

"Have you tried switching it off and on again" Sorry, it is better than asking have you googled it! Just a bit about GPS they, the Military have been mucking about with GPS recently even this Friday at Sennybridge Sennybridge - Wikipedia lasted most of the day deliberately distorting the signal to see how it affects drones! Very topical subject World Wide at the moment. I suspect that they have been doing this of and on for a little while. Evidentially it affects more than the sounding area and warnings have been sent out to shipping and aircraft out in the Irish Sea and Cornwall and further afield. Also because of the sunspot maxima Radio, TV and GPS are all affected especially during Solar Flares which have been popping off over the the last few years.

Could you try taking your California to any well known and respected Camper van specialist they surely might help with your roof?

Thank for the heads up. I am not in a desperate hurry just on way back up from Croatia and it would be great to find a guru for the autumn.

I also have a Mitsubushi 4x4 for longer overland trips and there are some really good guys that do trip preparation, help with glitches so when you set off on a 6K adventure you feel confident that you have prepared well.

That's why I started this fishing trip there must be an ex VW cali guru out there working from a small industrial unit.?

I am from the Wold of 4x4 also. long list from UNIMOG, Volvo TGB 6x6, Landrover 101FC Radio Body so on so on G Wagons Landcruisers etc and live off road too.
