2017, MK4, 2litre 5 speed manual ... Clutch slave cylinder external or internal to clutch bell housing ... Euros and GSF show an external one, garage thinks it's internal without having looked at it yet.

I have the VIN but struggling to find a good parts diagram?

Need to get underneath or get it to the garage I suppose.

Mine went on my 2009 2ltr caddy many moons ago I replaced outer one first in hope believe it was the master didn’t work so had to do internal which was slave obvs replaced clutch at same time

Yup, I done one on my dad’s 2012 5 speed. It is external. Pedal went to the floor, done the slave 1st as it easy with airbox out the way. Turned out it was the master which was a pain in the backside. Keep an eye on the grommet on the end of the pipe that goes into the slave. Ohh and it took a fair bit of bleeding

As mentioned, it has an external slave cylinder. They don't usually give much trouble – it's generally the master cylinder that causes problems, and most eventually start leaking. Have a look down towards the subframe with a torch and you'll often see a damp patch if that's the issue.
