Cadac gas regulator disaster!

Just setup my 2 cook 3 to use for only the second time and the dual gas regulator is knackered! Gas started pissing out the back when I connected the canister. Seems the back of the chamber is held on by a thin crimped piece of the case. Going to have to cook the wurst in the van now! I think I saw someone else had issues with the quality of these, thoughts?IMG_6267.webpIMG_6266.webp

One of many reasons I installed a Wallas XC Duo diesel hob.
Looks like UK regulations only apply to rental, boats and commercial operations.
Hope everybody has drop out vents, disconnects the regulator and caps the valve before storing cylinders in their vans :grin bounce:

I have owned and used a Wallas for many years more than 30 though mine is a Paraffin version as most of my earlier vehicles where petrol. mine came from a Marine Chandlers in Poole Dorset. It also provided heating if the lid was closed as it had fans distributing the heated air from the two hotplates. Do you have one of the hot plate plus heating models DXX?

Yes, XC Duo hob with a heater hood, I’ve used as low as minus 13C and still had the pop top up.
Great bit of kit if you can do the infrequent maintenance and occasional diagnostics yourself. No gas no condensation.

Mine was in a Landrover 101 Forward Control with Radio Body, minus 18Deg C my lowest temp and lovely and warm inside, Very economical on e and fuel also I had no leisure batteries only main starter yet it purred away for hours at a time without issue.

I see that Cadac is part of Dometic. In my experience Dometic products work well but aren’t built to take a knock or any seriously heavy use.

There was someone taken to hospital by air ambulance following a suspected gas explosion in a camper van parked in Moray NE Scotland. The picture on the front page of the regional newspaper P&J shows the damage when things go wrong with lpg.

Is there actually a regulator in these? I’m looking to buy a replacement on the road and I’m thinking I’m not going to find a Cadac specific hose but i have the push fit fitting that will take a hose so what do I need?

28mbar regulator by the looks of it

Ok, found the local hardware store which sold campingaz regulators but they were all 50mbar and I think we need 28mbar so they suggested trying obi. Found an obi on way to pitch but they had the same campingaz regulators, all 50mbar. AND one duel Cadac regulator, the only Cadac thing they had in the shop so I thought our luck was in but it seems there are 2 versions a 30 mbar and a 50mbar, the 50mbar was ticked so this led me to start investigating in store. The manual has this info:

So it seems all but a few countries (virtually in the countries we are visiting) have the same standard as uk but the Germanic countries have 50mbar.
So is this actually a different model with different burners or just specified differently to meet local regulations. Seems I can buy in Austria a Cadac running at either 30 or 50 mbar and they are different things.

So long story short I think we are buggered!

Ok so checking the chart above again Italy (where we are going in 2 days) uses the lower pressure gas supply so I did a bit of research and found this guy:
IMG_6392.pngSeems like they have everything. It’s an hour away from where we are staying but my colleague recommended going down there anyway, so day trip and gas accessory hunt in one.

Really need to sort some outside cooking as I’m feeling hot just watching Jo cooking in the van 😜

Have you thought about a little electric grill bbq thing. We bought one from a french supermarket in 2009 and its still going strong.....last time I looked they were 25 euros......campsites are fine with them too

We were thinking about some completely different alternative but looking for a stove and a bbq in one like the cadac. And if we had to choose we’d probably go for a cheap stove. One of those cartridge things, I nearly bought one in obi but it was €45 plus we’d need to buy the gas so didn’t

Everything tastes better cooked on wood and nothing to go wrong.
