Budget pizza oven

Theres another one of these in the box still for same money - Pardon our interruption...

Or a smaller cool looking vonhaus one -

The lidl ones look good and less than £80 when theyre available.
I have no experience of any of these by the way but this thread is making me hungry! 😋
Liking the Vonhaus one - the Mrs might get Bluelight discount with them too.

I like the look of that , it looks stainless and has a 2 year warranty....but is it big enough ? 🤔 🤷‍♂️

I don’t want one too big - will just make lots one after the other (normally only 2 of us). Yes not many have a 2 year warranty.

We have a gas fired Gozney that we’ve taken camping once. I ran it off the onboard Gaslow. It was very successful, but what a faff!! If you’re doing it properly, it’s a full days job, making/proving the dough, preparing the toppings/cooking/cleaning up afterwards.
I’ve also made cheats pizza on the BBQ, we have a cast iron skillet that sits on the grill. A packet of bread mix from the supermarket (ciabatta works well) mix up the dough, 1/2 hour later roll it out “skillet” shaped, drop it on the preheated skillet, let it cook on one side, flip it, put your toppings on. Lid on the bbq. Caio!!
Certainly agree with the 'faff' element, wifey takes 3 days to create a batch of fresh dough balls in their own little pots ready for creation on cooking day. Fortunately the Forum camp was at Rural Relaxing which had 3 large fridges available for us to put those pots in, worked out well.
We never had luck with normal pizzas on the pizza stone on the big Cadac, currently taking up space in the garage since we moved on to the cadac 2 cook 3 more transportable version. Taking out the Ooni is difficult now with a labrador taking up that space!

@Paul Sussex going back to the cat litter you have to use the 100% recycled wood pellets not just any old cat litter lol.
Think he's gets it from home bargains or b and m .

plus loads of other stuff think of it as a mini oven
One of my “Star” pizza oven dishes is:-
Bag of Aldi wild Argentinian prawns
Garlic
Olive oil
Lump of homemade Nduja (you could use some finely sliced chorizo)
I have some carbon steel round pizza tins, whack it all in together, 90seconds in a hot Gozney, squeeze of lemon and some chopped flat leaf parsley. Voila, regular crowd pleaser.

Whilst this doesn't meet your requirement of being wood-fired, I have been completely blown away by a mate's Tefal by Jamie O gas fires oven. The most impressive & useful thing is the turntable - so faff-free!!

I'm not normally a fan of the "by xxx (insert name of celebrity here)" products as they normally fall into 1 of 2 categories:- either tat that they're using the name to sell or a decent product you're paying an extra xx% just because it has a name on it. HOWEVER this is absolutely brilliant & sensibly priced for what it is!!

Shop around because there are deals to be had on this model ;)

I have seen them and liked the idea - but what about a little accident in there? Pizzas rip sometimes or have a little hole and the sauce ands on the stone.
I just put mine on full power for a few minutes and the stone is clean - how does that work with the turntable and the gap around?
Swinging the pizza around on the turning peel is half the fun
:)

What faff? Weighing the dough bits takes me 2min, 6min in the kitchen aid, rest for 2 days.
I have dough for 20 people ready in under 30min.
Forming 20 balls may take 10min in the worst case.
Grinding cheese for a minute and opening a can of muttis sauce.

On a campsite, working out of the van?

Thank you all for the input.

Now so confused, ease of making (gas) v Bear Grylls experience (wood).

So my thinking is - it’s not for the convenience otherwise we would just eat out.

But gas and even a turntable makes me think would that be better.

Having thought about our use - me and our son (wife stays home as says boys time) - this item is for our entertainment not just cooking if that makes sense.

Although gas sounds easier, more practical and possibly a better pizza - I am not sure it will give the same caveman feeling I was after.

Then the other bit of my brain says - so why do you have a gas BBQ.

So, sticking with wood - have fun trying to make something edible - love it / hate it - keep using it or hide it in the corner of the garage 😉

Our wood fired pizzas are the best we've ever had, and wifey says, "it's all about the dough"!

All removable etc. for cleaning!

An accident while cooking just burns to a crisp and can be scraped off quite easily!

The great man in action on our Ooni!

He may have burnt the only one he made on our machine, he wasn't paying attention to the peeling requirement! In fairness he had just arrived from a European voyage!

and the sauce

Your missus ain’t wrong and it’s the most difficult thing to get spot on. I’ve tried various recipes and methods, I’ve had good results, but not managed to “nail it”
for 4x 300g
714g Matthews Cotswold Strong flour (if you have no local mill with flour >12g protein)
0.5g yeats (active dry)
464g water
20g sea salt

2h at room temperature, than 3 days in the fridge, ouot of the fridge at least 3h before you make pizza

Easy to work dough, if you have a bit more experience go with
694g flour to 486g water

Quick and easy with Mutti sauce (if you don´t cook your own) and ooni sliced pepperoni.
