Afternoon all!

I’m hoping someone is able to help. I went over a speed bump & heard a loud twang. After looking underneath, I can see something that has sheered through but not sure what that is. I’m on STX coilovers.

Hoping someone can direct me to the cause & also whether one of the trade legends on here may be able to get my booked in ASAP. Typically it’s 17:30 on a Bank Holiday weekend so I know I’m asking a lot 🙏 🙏

It looks like the adjusting nut on the coil over.

Cheers mate. Relatively easy fix for the right garage if so, I’d imagine. Typical it’d happen at 17:00 on a bank holiday weekend!!

Unless it's constantly acrubbing out on the wheel arch liner it should be fine until you can get it replaced (the adjusting nut). It's just self lowered itself. Looks gooood!

Put your wallet there as a damper. 🤣

It’ll be fine until you’re able to get it sorted. Just go slow over bumps until then bud.

🤣🤣 Happy days mate that’s a result considering I thought I might be off the road for a bit. Supposed to be working today but cancelled last night until I can get it sorted. Might be able to get there this afternoon now in that case. Fix someone’s boiler & they effectively pay for my van repair 😂

At least that spring won’t cost as much as what I’m buying today. New Polo for my daughter as wrote her Golf off.
Travelling right now from Kent to VW Leicester by train to drive it back. Bang goes my Saturday!

Not sure it’s a quick repair unless you have a spare nut, the quick repair would be to replace the whole unit.
Don’t forget to check the opposite side, it maybe on the way out.
Looking at the fracture it appears to be a cast component, certainly not the strongest way to manufacture a ring nut.

Good shout about checking the other side, this doesn’t look quite right to me either

In what way?
Looks to me that they are adjusted to the limit. They look fairly new to me.
I’m not a fan of lowered suspension as there isn’t much suspension left, that puts more shock load through the other linked components.
It looks like the spring doesn’t sit square onto the pad underneath it at the bottom. Like it’s overhanging on the right hand edge? Hopefully that’s fine then & I'm just a bit paranoid now I’ve had an issue!

They’re just under 2 years old. Which is a bit earlier than I’d have expected to have experienced an issue really but I guess anything that’s mass produced will churn out slightly weaker parts here & there…
