Brake Noise

The other morning I felt my rear brakes binding on moving off, they did release but my brakes then felt below par for the next couple of braking actions. On the drive home the brakes were fine and have been since. However when I press the brake pedal I can hear a noise of air that I can't remember hearing before, however this may have been the first time I've driven the van without any music or radio so not 100% sure on that, and the binding brake may just be a coincidence.
I'd washed the car on my drive the day before and sloshed a lot of soapy water around the wheels, it was very cold during the following night which may or may not have any bearing on the brakes.
The noise isn't there all the time - only when I press the pedal. It's a swooshing sucking noise of air on pushing the pedal in, and it stops when pedal movement stops. Internet investigations vary from 'this is normal' to 'this is not normal'. I had the van in for its service today and asked them to look at it, the dealers have advised brake pads 50% worn but operating normally and recommended a strip/clean at £85.

Is the noise normal when pressing the T6 brake pedal?

My brakes always bind after washing or driving in wet conditions. I ride a bike to work and as a result the van moves very little. When I drive I have a grating sound for the first few times but then it fades with use. I put it down to a small build up of rust or something on the surface. Providing they work I tend not to worry.

Thanks Ed, I'd hoped that the binding was a result of washing/not moving/cold. Just that air noise now ...

One time after washing, on moving off a day or two later, there was an alarmingly loud bang which seemed to come from the front suspension area and it felt like the brakes binding solidly then suddenly letting go. There were no further problems but I will notify the service department when it goes in next time.

It happens on pretty much all vehicles. The pads rust to the discs very quickly, and the bang is them releasing. Discs also get a layer of surface rust, and this causes the grating noise for the first few operations.

You could drive the vehicle after washing it to get rid of the water.
