BP fuel pumps

Hi folks.

I've that this experience a number of times now, and at two different BP forecourts.

But when starting to fill up, you see the cost starting to up, but there is quite a delay before the pump different kicks in and fuel comes out. Usually around £1's worth.

So much so, that it's seemed odd, so I have stopped before any fuel comes out. And tried again, and repeated again. And so up to £3 spent but no fuel has come out.

Has anyone else noticed this? Only experienced at two local BP forecourt.

Can I quiz you on that? The pump price per L starts at one price, then escalates as it pumps?

Yes, I guess it does.

But all other pumps I've ever used start pumping out strait away, and the cost starting clicking up.

But in this instance, no fuel is coming out for at least a good 5 to 7 seconds, but being charged.

mm perhaps nothing to worry about but does seem strange. I believe that Weights & Measures check these things for accuracy.

I fill up at our local (West Midland) BP station, posh diesel for the van and cheapest unleaded for the motorbike. There is indeed a few seconds before both the fuels starts to flow, but the money is going up. The pump manufacturer is 'Wayne', so what do I expect!
Then again they sell 5 litre 'bags' of Kemetyl Adblue for around £20 that I also spend over the odds on occasionally. But, I do get BPme rewards points which gets me a free bottle of wine for only spending about £400 on BP products. I'd put it down to my local BP being a Marks and Expensive franchise.

That's all well and good, but I suspect they'll only check that the volume of fuel being dispensed is accurately reflected by the pump, and not that the monetary amount registered by the pump matches the advertisted cost.

Easy enough to check there's no shenanigans going on - does cost of fill-up ÷ # litres dispensed = advertised cost per litre?

So the great West Midland BP check up.
It adds up. It still feels there's nothing coming out for the first few seconds, but I suppose there must be...

I'll check that next time!

I'll also check if these pumps are also made by Wayne Enterprises 😁.

The pumps in question are both Midlands based, Lye (near MerryHill), and Stourbridge.

how much for super unleaded?😮
I remember when the ‘super’ fuels were about 5-7p per litre more than regular.
Then people started fussing about E10 and the gap jumped to the 20p we see now.

Interestingly one test of Esso E10 found it had the same ethanol content of their E5 but of course this varies and they won’t tell you the actual ratios.
