Disconnecting the Fuel Tank

Hi all,

I’m in the process of converting a T6.1 into a kombi and have a question about dropping the fuel tank to fit the seat brackets. I’ve read a few threads on here about doing this but have ended up a little confused.

In one thread I read that as long as you lower the tank carefully then you don’t need to disconnect anything but when I’ve started to do that I can see a black line from the tank that is connected to the frame of the van:

Can I disconnect this easily enough without causing any issues?

If this is disconnected will I then be able to lower without disconnecting the fuel lines which I think are the black, blue (and electric connections) here:

I’m a little hesitant as I changed the fuel filter in my golf once, got air in the system and had to call someone out to get it going again 🙈

Many thanks for any help!

Hi @mikeyb7 those connections come apart easy enough. Squeeze the two coloured tabs and pull the connection, sometimes you need to push each side of the connection and squeeze the the coloured tabs with your finger and thumb then they come apart. Diesel will come out! When you come to start the van, cycle the ignition a few times so the pump will fill the fuel lines.

Hi @PhillH thank you for your quick response.

Does the same go for the black line at the back of the tank, am I ok to disconnect that, if so how does that come apart?

Thank you!

Yeah they can all be disconnected in the same way. They can be a bit awkward. Just make sure they are clean going back together. Bit of grease will help if needed

Thanks @PhillH! I’m getting there, wish I’d waited till I had less fuel in it but I was too impatient.

I have the brackets in place now, does anyone know if there is a torque setting for the bolts? Thanks!
