Boring Factory To Understated Custom

Hi all,
I've been looking for a used T6 204 DSG 4motion for a while but they're pretty expensive, especially in Indium grey with nice alloys, side bars, LED lights, rear spoiler etc.

I was wondering how much it would cost to fit the above extras to a standard van, as they seem to be £10k cheaper sometimes. Wheels/tyres can vary widely obviously but how much could I expect to pay for the other stuff?

Many thanks

Sadly for you, but for us owners, the residual value of a used T6 is very strong compared to it's rivals, but you're looking for a 204 DSG and 4motion, LEDs, plus the most popular colour. That spec is always going to command the most money, and not be an easy T6 to find at the drop of a hat, specially at a reasonable price.

If you sacrificed the 4motion and LEDs, and hunted for a normal 204 DSG Kombi in Grey, your choice might open up far further if you're not scared to travel for the right T6.

You can then fit the LED replicas from places like Transporter HQ for around £500, giving you the pleasure of choosing and modifying the rest to your own taste.

I'd say to get one up to how mine looks, you're going to potentially throw another £5k at it, but this would include a huge spectrum of high end wheels, B14s, H&Rs (coilovers and performance anti roll bars, the most popular T6 mod that will transform the looks and handling of a standard T6) genuine or none genuine side bars, and a rear spoiler. Giving you what you want but to your personal taste.

Good luck with the search.

As @Tourershine. Getting a van that has already been modified or has the extras is going to command a price. You obviously have in mind what you want the van to look like. Take a couple steps back and buy a van that has the potential to look how you eventually want it to be. Then mod at your leisure. I.e better lights, better wheels, coilovers, ARB'S, carpet lined. This won't necessarily save you money, but it stops that initial big hit of forking out, and it gives you exactly what you want.

Oem LED retrofit is about £2500-£3000. Alloys, tyres and side bars are reasonably cheap (I paid around £750 for my alloys new which are 20” load rated), allow £100ish per tyre and a few hundred for side bars. All of this is easily added for under £10k, probably more like £5k.

My main advice to you would be to ensure whatever van you get has aircon, I made the mistake of not having it in mine

Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions, it's appreciated.

Yes, I noticed the high residuals while browsing over the past 2-3 weeks and agree that I'm looking for a high spec van which might be difficult to source. I currently have an Audi Q7 so I've been spoilt for comfort, speed/grunt and gadgets!

The van will be used for mountain biking trips and towing our caravan around the UK with the odd trip abroad to the Alps and Le Mans etc. It will also be used as a daily driver for me so it needs to more car-like to drive than a van if you know what I mean.

Whatever I buy, will definitely have factory LED lights as the OEM retrofit price is bonkers

As a standalone add-on it does seem expensive but when I ask myself if I would have paid £3k more for the same van I bought with LEDs the answer is yes. Thats how I am trying to talk myself into it anyways :D

Have you got a retrofit planned then, @xpfloyd?
Seeing how @Robert managed to do it for £1200 it’s certainly more tempting.

I want it but trying to justify cost. I haven’t seen the £1200 solution, do you have a link? (I don’t recall anyway if I have )
It was deep within the 20 or so pages of the LED retrofit thread some time back:

Anybody can do LED retrofit on T6.
Some basic mechanical and electrical knowledge/skills plus VCDS cable & software is enough.
I have done the whole retrofit(including lights range control/levelling)on my T6 myself.
Disregarding the cost of my labour it cost me approximately £1400 minus £200(I sold my old twin H7 lamps).
I bought all components individually, no DIY kits.
Everything brand new and genuine except range control module and its plug. I got these second hand.

Thanks. You seem to have got a cracking deal on the parts. I enquired about it last year via the forum and was quoted - "Around 2k maybe a smidge under for LED headlights and 2.5k including levelling setup". Note this was just for the parts. Thats what made me realise paying £2500-£3000 fitted was a better option.

£1200 is much more appealing though!
