Bike rack suggestions

Anyone know what type of bike rack is good for a vw t6.1 tailgate I’m seeing stuff for around 700 to 900 pounds are they really that dear?

You’ll get a 2nd hand one for about half that money

Bikes, bike racks, stand up paddleboards (seen any lately?) and peletons. All great ideas but soon lost to the corner of the garage.
Never buy new.

There’s Polish guy on FB marketplace sells “as new” cough cough! Thule rack/bars etc. about half the price of new. I picked up a set of bars, feet, and 2 bike racks to fit on my Ansemms trailer for £250. A shade over £500 at Halfords for the same kit.

Keep an eye on the t6 forum for sale section and the vw California forum, they do come up for sale frequently

Put a Wanted Ad on the Forum, it might jog a dormant cyclist into selling their rack. If you don’t ask you don’t get.

Just one problem with buying used, the rubbers or plastic bits can get brittle with age. I'd just think about adding new foam pads especially if you get one that hangs on your tailgate. Also the claw clamps will get brittle and split over time.
Having said that, I split one of the claws off my Thule rack after only 3 months from new. But got a new one obviously under warranty.
But they are stupid expensive. I would buy a more basic halfords one if I had to buy again (I've a tow bar mounted one).
If going used, just give it a good look over.

Probably more UV than age because it’s such a PITA to fit and remove they stay on the van.
If you find one that’s spent most of it’s time in indoors storage you should be OK.
