Battery related? Weird issues - HELP!

Hi everybody,

Apologies for the story but I’m not sure if it’s all related or coincidental or whatever?

So a couple weeks ago myT6.1 camper displayed a few low battery warnings that at first I believed could be sorted with driving, however after several battery low messages I decided to get a new battery and upgraded to a 900a 100ah Yuasa and have successfully coded it to the van using Carista Pro.

Before I changed the battery however, both front electric windows stopped working. Like entirely. No reaction from either NS or OS window switches. No sounds from the window motors even trying. All the fuses look ok too. Now I’m not sure if this is related but in the last trip I had when it displayed low battery, I lowered the front windows and pulled forward and a load of rainwater from the camper roof came down like a torrent and soaked the NS window switch. Nothing bad happened then, windows still worked and everything ok. Took it out for a nice long drive.

When I parked up, I heard “clicking” from the NS door, like the window motor or something but no movement from the glass and I wasn't pressing either window button? Tried the window again thinking “that water has done something” but they both worked so eventually I drive home and left it on the drive.

I thought it was battery related so I did the capacitive discharge by disconnecting battery and touching positive and negative leads together, left it for about 15 minutes and then both windows worked again! I went out in I about 20 mins later and both windows no longer working. Ehhh? (Also worth nothing I’ve changed the passenger switch for a brand new VW switch but hasn’t helped)

Another problem at the same time as all this and I thought battery related but I got the “no start in 650 miles” adblue message. Then yesterday when I went out for a drive that message change to “please add adblue, min 1 max 1.25” so I’ve added 4.6 litres. Waited 30 seconds with the ignition on and the error message went off.

Started it up again and it’s back to saying “no start in 650 miles” and both windows still not working!

What’s going on!? If anybody can help I’d be eternally grateful, I feel like I’m going mad lol

Multiple random faults are quite often power related. Have you checked the actual battery voltage with a meter? Also the engine earth strap is a common issue. Check for a bad earth at the ECU. Set your multi meter to DC volts and put it across the battery negative and a good earth point on the body. It should read zero.
