awnings in rain

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for an awning (potentially with side walls). I paid attention on Fiamma F43 or Thule Omnistor 5200.

But.. In the instructions of ALL of such awning is written that they are just sun protection awnings (please close in case of raining)!

What should expect if it stays open all the day/night under the rain? Like a normal rain with gysps of wind. Ofcourse I mean not the very strong storm.. Can you recommend any good awning which is really strong? Should I expect that for example Fiamma F35 or Thule 3200 are more strong in comparison with what I mentioned above?

And what about the material.. Is it water proof? Or like my cheep umbrella which becomes transparent for the water after an hour of rain?

Cheers,
Anton

we have a Reimo Palm Beach canopy. Cheap and cheerful, rain and sun proof. Ok in a breeze but not in a strong wind, costs around 150 euro.

The material is totally waterproof. Whichever one you get.

Get storm straps and use them.

Tilt the awning until it looks just plain wrong, you don't want water to pool in the material.

And then take it in at night, or when you leave the van.

They are fine in the rain.
I’ve got a F45 and just make sure one end is slightly lower than the other so the rain runs off.
The main reason they say don’t use in the rain is so you don’t wind it in wet and leave it as it will rot the same as a tent.
If my canopy gets wet I will use the centre support bar and a towel to dry it off before winding it in and if I’m not happy it’s 100% dry I will wind it back out when it’s sunny or dry to dry it off properly.

Thanks all. I think I will buy F35 as it looks much stronger. Those horizontal folding arms of F45 with a joint in the middle looks very unstable.. I would better use the telescopic stick like in F35
