View attachment 321806Debus air awning is my newest awning, with the front and sides it gives some nice rain protection. Will be tested this weekend with the forecast 40mph winds tomorrow. Not sure what to do about that 🫣

Considering I said I’d never get another air awning and I love the back to basics approach and flexibility of the debus sun canopy I can only blame you people on this forum my making me get it!
Interested to know how you get on with it. Likewise, thanks to this lovely forum, I'm currently considering one, even though I didn't know I maybe need one
Currently have the Debus sun canopy, and a Vango Kilda Air drive-away for longer stays. This would certainly do what the sun canopy does, and with the sides / front panel, do most of what the drive away does, whilst presumably being lighter / more compact / quicker & easier to erect and put away. Compromises: have to pack it away every day and can't leave any bits in it when going out for the day in the van; not as warm and snuggy as the drive away when we zip ourselves in.

Think you summarised that quite well. We don’t tend to leave site once pitched (due to our heavy drinking) so that’s not really an issue for us but it is a little in the balance whether it’s worth it and not just go full awning. One major difference in a that it’s a lot smaller, it extends 2m from the van whereas our smallest awnings before has been 3m plus 1m tunnel

Our Outwell Touring Shelter Air is 3m x 3m, the new one, when she buys it, adds an extra 1m with the tunnel exits either side, which she wants to have easier access to the Joolca Ensuite for night time necessaries.
We still aren't old enough to go to the loo in front of each other!
It's bigger but the cross airbeams and the option of any or all of the 3 sides opening make it very versatile, she goes on to say!

Ok so despite the forecast 40mph winds this afternoon there was very little breeze at all right up to about 30mins ago when it started getting blowy and raining heavily, this made the air tube collapse but pushed it back up and seems no harm done

Upsetting! What pressure did you have it up to? Perhaps throw another log on/in?

Having upgraded from a bell tent to T6 campervan, we struggled to find a good drive away awning as we found them a bit flimsy (we had a poled one which took a battering in strong winds and damaged the poles) and plasticy compared to what we were used to. We ended up getting a DubPod Roamer instead as it was from the same company that we bought our bell tent from which had served us very well in the past. We can also use our wood burning stove with it too in the colder months. Not badly priced either for the size and quality vs other drive away awnings.

Are you still quite happy with this? We're looking at buying one, reason being is my wife likes LARPing (don't ask), where you camp in a medieval style character, but you have to have a tent that fits with the aesthetic, so this could well end up with double use as a tent (which their website seems to indicate it can be used independently), and as a van awning. Because we've got a twin slide we'll get the large stitches and steel tarp on the other side.

My only worry with this pole based stuff is the poles falling or being blown over and scraping down the van paintwork.
