Anyone know how these work?

I’ve assumed these are lights of some sort but no idea how they work? I’ve never seen them on. Any ideas anyone?

Some strip lights like that there is a sensor built into one of the end caps. Tap it to switch on and off. Some you can also dim by pressing on the same part
