Does anyone just use their van for trips away from home and store it the rest of the time?

Pretty much, yes. We do use it for local stuff sometimes, and make sure we keep the battery charged, but basically it is a holiday only vehicle.
That was always the intention.

We took ours to Go Outdoors the other week (in order to preserve the street parking space outside our house :slow rofl: ), felt very odd not packing and filling up food and water.

Weekends and weeks away only apart from the odd diesel top-up before a trip.

No mine is our daily driver, work runs, shopping trips, family visits etc and used so far this year for 19 weekend camping trips and 3 left to do. Backed up with plenty of cleaning and garage services. This seems to stop a lot of the problems I see on here when people bring out their vans after winter.

Had ours 5 years and is my daily drive, days out, last minute weekend camps around Snowdonia where we live, road trip to Ireland, Lake District, Outer Hebrides, and West Coast of Scotland. We love it.

Everyday “car” for me! School runs, till runs, work runs, holiday runs…..!

Yup, holidays only. I think we did 500 miles last year and this year it might be a record 800……..

It would be interesting to understand what issues those that ‘store’ for holidays encounter?

Not quite sure what issues we would encounter tbh. We park the van in the garden, we have a 240V socket that we plug the van into when it’s parked up, saying that, the solar keeps everything topped up. We have a Screwfix oil filled radiator plugged in in winter when we’re not using it to keep things aired. Notwithstanding Covid, we have a couple of months skiing after Christmas, then down to Portugal in March, back in July. Then dodge about in the UK in summer. Currently in Cornwall. So the van is in pretty much constant use.

My T6 is my daily driver but a friend has a converted T6 camper which hasn't had much use for 2 years for obvious reasons, my only observation is that he stores it outdoors and puts covers over the tyres to prevent UV damage - seems like a sensible precaution in his situation as he won't wear tyres out very quickly. I've seen other camper and motorhome users do the same.

Hi where did you gret the vw windbreak and the toilet pod

Our Camper is just for holidays and longer road trips on the weekends.

I run the diesel heater every month and take it for a short drive every few weeks if it Hasn’t been used.

ideally you need the mechanicals moving a little, or you can have issues, such as flat spots on tyres, bearing’s don’t like being stuck on one position with load for long times, brakes have less issues if everything is moving.

I also mainly use mine for trips away, I keep the leisure battery plugged in to a 240v charger all the time and charge the starter battery weekly.
I try to run the diesel heater monthly and take the van out every so often just to give it a run and enjoy it.
