Ambient Temperature Sensor

New T6.1 owner, ambient temperature sensor shows 40-48 degrees centigrade. Going into the garage for replacement in 2 days.

I was wondering what impact on the vehicle this sensor has, is it just to tell the driver how hot / cold it is or does it do more?

Only reason I ask is I have noticed the radiator fan is on every day when I drive home (it turns off immediately when I turn off the van). Same with the heated windscreen I turn it on in the morning and it immediately turns off. Is this because the vehicle thinks it’s 48 degrees outside?

I have a Carista reader and no faults are reported

Yeah, the sensor will confuse the engine management and climate systems. The fan will be running to prevent what the van thinks is potential for an over heating situation.
