Aircon in my T6

I wanted to ask about aircon in my T6, its not climate control just normal aircon.
It comes on sometimes by itself when is cold to clear the windscreen, i asked VW about this and they said that's normal.
I read in the manual VW recommend leaving it on all the time, did i read this right ?
Is it best to leave it on all the time or just when i need it in the summer months or to clear the screen.
I'm a bit confused by it all, that's easily done though.

When you direct the airflow to the windscreen, the AC will automatically come on to help demist the screen.
