Ahhhh knocking noise when turning!!!!!

Gonna look to have the top mount on right front strut changed to see if that resolves.

I got hitch top mounts replaced on my b14 lowered t32 and hadn't solved the problem, still waiting for someone else to have the issues. What's yours doing daveyb? I was convinced mine was top mounts as could feel it knocking too..

Mine is still knocking. Had the top mounts greased but it made no difference. Sounds to me as though it is the right side top mount. Was gonna get it changed and see what that does.

@DaveyB
Exactly what I thought so changed biting and still there, the vw specialist who did it said he would of put money on it being top mounts..
I'm just waiting now to see if anyone gets to the bottom of it..
When does yours do it?

Had the B14’s inspected and was told it wasn’t them. It does it at slow speed when going from lock to lock.
Have read someone say they had a tie rod swapped and that stopped it.

Exactly same as mine, finally others with the same issue! Now just to get to the bottom of it, I had my b14's taken off and it didn't seem to do it, but I didn't do many miles with them off before I put back on.. definitely don't dontopmmounts it was a waste of £300

For a bit of trouble shooting try this:
1) Jack up the offending front corner and hold the road wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock position and with a lot of effort push at 12 and pull at 6 and vice versa. If you get a knock that is usually a wheel bearing problem (you would hear a rumbling noise whilst driving too in most cases)
2) If there was no noise in point 1 above, then hold the road wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock position and do the push /pull exercise again. If you get a knock it is usually your track rod end.
3) Go to an empty car park, apply full lock and then without moving the steering, start driving. If you get a repeating knock, look at your drive shaft CV joints. Do this for both directions.
4) Park front wheels on top of loose sheets of plywood (one per wheel) or on grass. Without moving forwards, turn steering from lock to lock. Any pinging type noise usually points towards a sticking top mount.
5) Drive straight down a road which dips from left to tight (ie most country B class roads). If you can hear (and often feel) knocking that is your anti roll bar drop links. A pot holed road will also detect this but I'd avoid those roads for obvious reasons.
6) Drive over speed bumps so that the front suspension compresses, if you get a groaning noise, that's the wife. It could also be your anti roll bar mounts that need a bit of lube/replacing.

ps If you and your mates have just been messing with your brakes, wheels, wheel spacers, suspension struts etc, check what you have done first for loose joints and bolts, foul conditions, bits still in the box that you couldn't work out where it went...............

Has anyone else had tie rods changed? If so has it also solved it? I want to get more ne sorted, but already wasted money on top mounts. Also does it seem worsensome days than others? Mine can be alarmist not there one day and the next be really bad!

Are you still on standard suspension? Is your knocking noise while turning at low speeds?(parking etc)

Doing it both on standard and lowering springs

Was initially at low speeds, now most of the time even when sitting stationary and turning the steering

Sounds like Mine, does it seem worse some days than others? Mine is and I can’t figure out if it’s cold or wet that may effect it..

Did anyone get to the bottom of the knocking? I'm not sure if mine has got better or I have switched off to it

Funny you should mention this. Since I first posted this I hadn't had a problem. Took the bus in to be serviced yesterday and picked it up today and about an hour into driving I got it again. So I'm wondering if it's been up on the ramp and it's something settling ? Only done it the once so far. Will keep an eye on it
