Advice On What To Buy

Hi All,

I am about to purchase a new t6 for myself. I have two options and not sure what to go for...

There is a 2017 ex rental t6, with pretty much all the extras, electric sliding doors on both sides, dsg, 2ltr. or a 2016 ex VW employee car with a manual door and manual box 2ltr.

The difference between the two is about 4k Euros. I think I've settled on the 2016 as it seems to drive a bit nicer and seems to have a better sounding engine, but I am having some doubts about not getting the dsg.

I think the 2017 may be a bit of a problem with all the electronics down the road, but not sure if i have made a mistake. What are the pros and cons of each and any views are welcome :D

Thanks!

I’ve got a 150 6sp manual and have just bought an automatic car for the first time.
If I were getting another van I deffo go for the DSG box. Both vans have lots of electrics so I’d not worry about that, plus you’ll have warranty if anything goes wrong in the first few years.

Although the £4K is a fair old wedge.

DSG option for me 100% - all day long

had 2x DSG vans now no issues (except a DMF/clutch on the older one but thats not DSG specific)

(you said 2ltr, but what was BHP/PS? both same?)(they all 2ltr now with different PS levels)

It might have changed but when I bought my Highline 4motion combi there was no option to spec DSG. Would have had to have gone for 204ps. This might have been down to it being a 4motion though?

Our last van was a T5.1 DSG 4motion. 180ps. MY2011..

Not sure if the DSG/4M combo was available in the T6 release date.

I think gearbox is hugely personal preference
My T6 is DSG and I like it but I don’t drive it daily, if it were daily work van I would order manual if it was a camper/weekend van I would go DSG again
I would recommend driving them and see what you prefer, some people love DSG and some loathe it so only you can decide !!

Im aware you're examples aren't vans from new but I think when talking to @BiTurbo he mentioned you can't get a manual option from new now due to the emissions.

Thanks for the advice, I've decided to go for the manual, would have liked the auto but price prohibited, also not sure why but the engine in the manual seemed smoother than the auto. All in all I think ill be happy with it as a daily driver for a few years but I think the next one will be an auto. Its my preference, but my wife will be driving it most of the time, so for the odd time I will drive it ill put up with the manual. :D
