Buying privately

Apart from satisfying yourself that a vehicle is sound and Manufacturers warranty is confirmed as active the single most important thing to do is a Car Vertical / HPI check. Do not part with a £ until you are 100% satisfied the vehicle is free from any outstanding finance and recorded damage or stolen etc. Good Luck

I purchased a second hand van a couple of years ago, 2019 Combi 42k miles for £34k. Which is a lot of money without a warranty.

Go and visit it, meet the seller, drive it, check the V5 registered address, ask to see sellets ID (passport/ drivers license etc) to check the address before any payment (ask for a pic of such before sending monies). Any reasonable respectable seller won't mind.

Be picky with the service history, see any receipts for work, call a VW garage and check history and intervals (as service log books seem to be not a thing anymore! crazy!). Has it been looked after? If not, walk away.

I've had friends who've gone to buy from a main dealer and found missed services, DSG not serviced atvright interval etc, yet VW asking top dollar! So buying from a dealer can still be a lottery.

If ever in doubt, don't be fobbed off, but keep asking questions. If you don't get answers, walk away and find a better one. One will appear. Be patient.

I nearly paid for an RAC check circa £300, but didn't as in knew what I was after and what to check for, but not everyone does
So go for it. But id see it in person first, even if you have to travel. You can always put a deposit on it based on no horrors from an RAC et-al inspection.

Good luck!
