Hi, new to these vans, I've always had 50's vw's but now I'm thinking of trading my weekend car for one, we have a big motorhome but these Caravelle's seem like a good option as a daily and for nipping down the beach with the kids, I would be looking for a 16 or 17 plate due to budget, so what do I want to look out for, is high mileage a problem, what is the best model etc..
any advice welcome.
Thanks

HI

I have a 16 plate caravelle. We love it for daily school runs, shopping. I do a bit of canoeing and find the tail gate grate for getting changed.

Don't be afraid of travelling for the right bus. I got mine from Scotland.

Things to look for.

Service history
Don't be worried about 80k plus
service history is key. If looking at a dsg make sure it has been flushed at the right intervals.

Spec

Avoid the basic SE and get the executive.
Later 16 plates came with ACC
Check the heater blows hot and cold

If you buy one
I would recommend taking it to VW service
And signing upto the 'all in one' plan.

On my second Caravelle, had a T5 before and now T6.
Great piece of kit. ACC for travelling long distances is a must. Chassis control nice to have ( riding nice in Comfort mode).
Nice to have power latching for side doors (don’t like the automatic mode).
Engine wise 150 seems more reliable than 199 unit.

The 199 replaced the 204 in 2020 I have 2 of the 204 and no problem unlike the 5.1 with the 180 that was trouble form 40k
