Additional Reverse Lights

I've done a forum search but cant find a conclusive answer...

Im thinking of fitting some flush mount led lights into the panels below the rear lights on my 6.1 and tapping into the reverse light wiring.

Is this liable to cause bulb warning upset, and if so is there any way around it?

TIA

Its possible, the van only sees the resistance/current flow going to the lamps so as long as it doesnt change too much the van wont get upset

Are your existing lamps LED or halogen ?

Worst case if you try adding extra lights and it trips the bulb warning circuit you can add a clean 12v supply to the rear through a relay and just use the reverse lamp supply as a trigger for the relay

Halogen on my van.

Thanks Pauly, much to think on. I may just have to suck it and see.

Personally if i were going to do it i would get the intended lights and hot wire them into the reverse cable somewhere inside/discreet and dry test, will let you know if its going to be an easy fix or not

FWIW you can remove the rear cluster and trims below quite easily (two screws and a couple plastic push rivets) then where the wiring enters the body theres a large grommet that pops out and gives you easy access to get cables inside and jointed in the dry, will see if i can dig out any photos

I fitted Twenty20 LED bulbs in my halogen units. 2 mins job. Night and Day difference. Edit mine is T6.

What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

cheers guys.

If i'm honest im interested in doing it for the butch Swamper look, but if I go ahead I want them working proper, like.

i'll keep y'all posted.

I have an additional LED maneuvering light connected to the reversing circuit. (On the Forum).
Originally with halogen tail lights now LEDs.
Also have a Garmin WiFI BC30 camera connected to the reversing lamp circuit.
Occasionally I’d get some lamp flickering on the maneuvering lamp.
I just added an additional local grounding wire and it fixed it.
I could have isolated components one at a time to find the cause but didn’t. The additional grounding works.

Has anyone added additional reversing lamps to a T6.1 fitted with factory-fitted LEDs at the rear? I had issues trying to pick up a 12V reverse lamp feed for my retro-fitted rear view camera when I first got the van. I gave up in frustration as I ran out of time but have always meant to revisit the problem and have been thinking about supplementing the present single reverse lamp.

Is it not a case of running an extra wire across like in the T6 E3 clusters ?
Apparently not. When I was fitting my rear view camera a couple of years back, I couldn't find a reverse switched 12V source where I expected it on Pin 5 (Green/Black) of the Right Hand Side LED rear lamp cluster. I ran out of time messing around at the rear so I wired it into the cab electrics. I guess a solid state relay of some sort would be the way forward but I’ve found very little information online on the topic.

Pretty sure mine are halogen being a Startline Business Pack. 6.1 though, ifnthar makes a difference.
