Adblue Oooops

Oh dear, The others will be on later I guess with relevant information but hold tight until you have a report. Best of luck.

I'm a bit scared of the whole adblue thing, I can understand how it would happen, just one of those brain farts ... anyway, got some miles to do tomorrow, off to bed 😁
I think that the theory of many of the anti pollution devices are fine it is the implementation seemingly applied in a hurry and not refined or fool proof. All this not overfilling or putting in the exact amount is very poor. The Ad Blue filler I think might have been better else where, it is an accident waiting to happen! Perhaps in the engine bay perhaps and much higher capacity.

It really doesn't matter where it's put, drivers will still do the wrong thing. I've seen someone top up their screen wash on a caddy. Sorry, should rephrase that. Seen them top the add blue tank up with screen wash. Granted, it is under the bonnet and has a blue cap.

I have known one customer to pop ad blue in their fuel tank. They did run it, our advice was call the fuel fixer guys out to drain the tank, fresh fuel and fuel filter. Touch wood, the customer is still running about in the same car with no issues.

I personally would get the tank drained, new filter, fresh fuel and run the van. What can go wrong? It doesn't work and the fuel system needs replacing. But, there is a high chance it will work and your quids in.

Me neither. 2 different filler caps, different colour, one says “Diesel” the other says “Ad-Blue”. Both different sizes. How hard can it be? As the man once said “as soon as you make something idiot proof, someone comes out with a better class of idiot”

Thing is it does happen and probably more frequently than is reported on here. Manufacturers changed the size of fuel nozzles to help prevent diesel and petrol mistakes. I am sure that may still happen occasionally no idea how. Not every one who drives Transporter type vehicles is aware. I believe that the two filler holes Ad blue and fuel are too close people become tired have distractions relationship problems employment problems and which can consume some people far more than others and the arrangement is just poor etc. Also it should not be such a faff overfilling should not matter a dam either, very easy to do, one could imagine its been designed by someone trying to speed up the demise of diesel or some other joker. The addition is an afterthought hurried through and tagged on. It should be difficult to miss fuel. Imagine having to take such an effort measuring out diesel oh must not overfill must don’t just add a small amount must allow the vehicle to register first do not do it with the engine running. F f S these are commercial vehicles and often used by non commercial people. They are for what they are, expensive even the Caravelle few would pay for a car built to that standard at that price poor finish bits stuck anywhere bits of crude plastic to hide its normal ancillary background.
