Want to buy a fridge for the conversion. What are pros and cons of absorption fridges? Why are they cheaper? What is a good brand? TIA

They consume a lot more power running on 12v than a standard fridge - I have seen one kill a battery in 8 hrs.
I have one that I use at home occasionally, but I run that on 240v or gas. Of course you can't use gas unless the fridge is outside the van due to the fumes.

Pros: work off gas, 12V electric, 240v electric (basically they require a heat source to work).

Cons: very inefficient and generally a low delta temp achievable between inside and outside.

Remarks: they appear to be on the way out with new and quiet compressor fridges doing the job far better and with the affordability of solar panels.

as above . . .

efficiency and power usage is the issues . .

compressor fridge is the way to go.

so states and power usage examples over here:
