A question for those with Shuttles...

A question for those with Shuttles- in particular those without rear AC. How do you find it? I really want a Shuttle with rear AC, 8 seats and LWB but I'm struggling. There are plenty with front AC only and I wanted to get a sense check on whether I should hold out for the right van or, should the price be right, is front AC-only something I'd be able to live with? I say "I", I actually mean the five kids we have!

It's whether you can wait for that unicorn model :)

We're not using the rear bench every day, with four passengers and a dog usually, but I imagine it'll be pretty uncomfortable for the rearmost passengers in high summer - or touring southern Europe for instance. When we do use the bench, we have the windows open slightly, with wind deflectors.. and this helps a lot on fast roads if you're okay with a little external noise.

I did end up compromising when all of my other specs (and a few more) were on an approved used model because the rear bench isn't in constant use... But as you're bringing six passengers, I'd hold out for the full AC myself. The front AC can handle front and middle just about, but no chance on the rear bench, and other threads here indicate the cost of retrofit is not economical.

Could you get a caravelle and put a double seat up front to get your 8?

Cheers

Toby

Good Caravelles are also getting rarer as they've been out of production for a while longer than the other variants - took a good while to find ours.

Don’t really need rear ac. Put front ac on, internal air circulation, and rear blower system and its fine. Im sure rear ac helps, and i wanted it too, but i wouldn’t turn down a good van because of it. LWB and 8 seats is enough of a unicorn. I have one.

First post, totally agree with huw169. I’ve got a 2019 LWB Shuttle. In the summer we went through France and into Spain. My son uses the middle row and my daughter the rear row. Neither complained about no rear AC. They’re good kids but I kept asking them if they were OK and with the front AC full blast they said they were fine. Before buying my Shuttle in December 2024 I looked for months for a good one, the lack of rear AC didn’t put me off the right vehicle.

I have rear AC in the shuttle and although it is nice to have, the front AC with rear blower on or windows open is fine for the little ones.
