4Mo - How do you know when it's working?

Was on a very muddy and rough farmer's track today (rescue mission for my son who'd done his Caddy sump on the same track). No way I'd have attempted it in my old 2WD T5 but what the hell I have a 4Motion now ...

Got through no bother, didn't use the diff lock and it just kept on chugging through the sh*te. Thought it might flash a light at me to tell me it was doing its thing?

With the Haldex system it just engages 4WD to varying degrees and only as required, so if there was a light to to say it was in 4WD it would probably become quite annoying.

Yeah, I feel the same.
Besides the Diff Lock (that obviously locks it in 4WD mode too) I have often wondered if there was a way to force it just in 4WD mode.

I mean the Haldex has probably an intevention time of half a second or so, and you may not want to wait so much in some situations.

This sounds quite interesting.....

There are Haldex controllers available but not heard of anyone using them. The app for those might give a bit more info on what it's doing.

I was checking a couple of things on my van today and thought I'd see what I could display regarding the Haldex on the dashboard via the OBD dongle and car scanner app on I-phone Car Scanner ELM OBD2 – The best car OBD2 diagnostic solution for iOS and Android in your pocket! ( and therfore on Infotainment screen via Carplay) I don't actually have 4WD so just have the dash display of wht it what it would look like:
There are plenty of options within the app for how to display stuff, so might be a usefull thing for those with 4WD?

Oh that's interesting thank you. I'll have a play with that.

I originally set it up to monitor the DPF regens as shown, but have now added various temperature gauges, ADblue monitoring, and now Haldex (just to see what it could measure)
I leave the dongle connected to the OOBD port permanently so everything is available when my phone is connected.
The display via Carplay is not graphical like on the phone, but still displays all the info required.
BTW - Also available with Android phones.

I’m not to good with these sort of things but is that app cost free ?…or do you need to pay to get certain things to work?

There are two parts required - The hardware dongle which plugs into the OBD port, and the App for the i-phone or android phone.
The dongle is pretty generic and cheap, but some are better than others - see this
I think the one I got was around NZ$30

The software app was free for a trial and then it suggested upgrading to a paid version - About NZ$15.
It also works a a scanner for faults (which I haven't tried as I already have VCDS for that)
