Hi All,

I have some ABT CR alloys waiting to go on a T6 California which is being lowered 30mm by the dealer using the VW springs. DOes anyone know if 40 profile tyres would be ok or if they might rub?

Thanks,
Chris.

Ok. Firstly, do you need to go as wide as 275?? On a 9" rim, recommended size would be 245 or 255 with 265 being recommended maximum. I'm running 8.5J on front with 35 offset so your rim will be 3.6mm less sticking out than mine at the outer rim and 16.4mm closer to the hub on the inner.

You should be ok on the rear as I'm running 10.5" with 40 offset with 275/40 tyres (only 19" rims) and no rubbing even when I've fully aired out my air ride.

Personally I'd maybe think going slightly narrower tyre on front????

40 profile is the wrong size and could rub, you'd be better off with a 275/35 20 tyre, which is the perfect tyre size for a 20, and also well within tolerances so as not to put the speedo out etc. This is also the recommended tyre size from ABT Also Id recommend looking at a different spring to the VW Eibach one, as these can be quite harsh in use. The H&R spring -40mm is a far better and less crashy spring. You might need to mod the inner plastic arch liner, but this is easy with a heat gun.

nice, very nice;)

Mine are 275 40 20 on a 9x20 alloy with a 35offset. Had it lowered by dealer on -30mm eibach. Only rubbing is on full lock. Plan is to potentially drop tyre width at some point

I have the abt cr20s. Im using 275/35/20.
Going to be lowered as far as the abt kit will allow (around 60-70mm )and 15mm rear spacers.

Imo go with 35 profile.

CustomVanz seem to use 40 & 35 profile on their 275/20 wheel/tyre packages

just to put my 2 penny's worth in,
I run 245/35/20 fronts on a 8.5" rim
285/30/20 rears on a 10" rim, the van is 70mm lower on Bilstein coilovers, the 2 tyres give a zero % difference front to rear, and less than 1% difference from the original wheels and tyres so the speedo is as close as can be.

275/40/20 look like balloons and will rub, I have tried it and hated it, my set up now (although quite expensive) is by far the best set up, looks ace, drives lovely, Sorted:):)

Well each to their own and everyone has their opinions but I run 275/40/20 on mine and they don't look like balloons , also one of the major transporter specialists ( customvanz ) seem more than happy to put balloons ( sorry I meant 275/40/20 ) on their vans which they charge a small fortune for....
One thing I would say is that each tyre brand is different with side wall margins ( some stay in shape more than others which bulge more) so if you're not sure give them a call as they are only too happy to help.

I sense you took offence to my comments which was not the intention, just an opinion from over the last 14 years of "T" ownership

@craig somerset, running 30 profiles on the rear, are they properly load rated? Admittedly I'm on 19s so will be different, but I couldn't find anything lower than 40 profile with correct load rating.

The tyres are extra loads which they would have to be but, yes, all load rated and no issues, I think because they are so wide (295) that 30% of 295 is plenty of side wall

nice, very nice;)

Surely they cannot be €4880 for a set of four?! And whats the difference in the sports version at almost €2100 extra?! They do look awesome though, would love to see pictures when done :)

I think the wheels are about £2500inc for a set of 4. Rubber what ever you want to spend but £750 would get you michelins. Have you seen something different price wise?
