Hi Folks, Please forgive me if this is a silly question. I've jumped on the VW camper bandwagon and decided to purchase an Ex AA van for a conversion. The van im getting is a T6 67 plate (T32) has the standard wheels (assume 15in) and i wanted to know if i could replace these with 18in wheels...

18” wheels but what size tyres?

Thanks all your replies. I wondered if the ride might be a bit harsh/crashy on 255/45/18 ? My velle is on 235/55/17 at present which seems ok. Also maybe slightly better fuel consumption on the 235 than 255 ? Anyone have any info on my TPMS question?

Can I change my 2011 T5 Transporter wheels from steel 205/65R16C to alloy 235/55/17

...was over by 5% or so. The ride quality is significantly better, which I think is due to the tyre quality. Grip and steering much more precise. Should be though as those tyres were eyewateringly expensive (for me). (The van came with SuperMetal 18 rims & 255/45/18 Tyres which were dreadful)

    Tyre Pressures 255/45/18

Here is a tyre plate sticker from a Cali for info: And one from a T28: Both have pressures for 255/45 18.

Show me your Calibre Five wheels

It's probably sat a bit high now - was previously on some 20" calibres which I was just crashing around on. Either the drop to 18s or the better tyres - its a far better ride. I like the matt black look more than I thought as you can still see the wheel, where as I think some gloss ones you can't.

    Team Banded Brothers.

Stx drop circa 60mm whether that is low enough is personal preference. 255 45 18 are typically 103 rated for a t32 hence a lot of members have them. What load rating are your 245 45 18 tyres and what load capacity is your van?

    Hello from Buckinghamshire

If you go 18” consider 235/55 tyres. They make a nicer and smoother ride compared to oem 255/45/18, they are cheaper and 104H load.

    Tyres for 18” 8.5J wheels

Nice wheels! where did you buy them from? yes OEM size for 18's is 255/45/18. although people have also fitted 235/50/18 and 235/55/18, do a search on the forum for more info. Main thing to ensure is that you get the correct load rated tyres for your van.

One more question. Do you have adaptive cruise control? Does it work fine with different tyre size?

18” wheels but what size tyres?

...fit inside in the wheel arch ok? Also tyre wise I can’t make up my mind whether to go for Michelin CrossClimate 2 tyres in 235/55/18 or 255/45/18 size? I would appreciate any opinions/advice on the above sizes. Oh, and will I have any problems with the TPMS system if I change wheels and...

    Tyres for 18” 8.5J wheels

I'm still looking for tyres for mine , on wolfrace site they offer 255/45 R18 as a tyre package and it states on several sites 255 is the max an 8.5j wheel will take. I was going 245 just incase but then that's only 100 load rating the 255 is 103 nearer to the sticker on my door shut...

    Tyre pressure T28

Only 40psi max! That sounds rather low, even for a laden car or SUV let alone a van. My Conti All Seasons of the same size and load rating have a max of 51psi on the side so comfortably covers the VW recommended range. Are they def 103 rated?
