Looking for any recommendations to get my Kombi, insulated, sound proofed, carpet ply lined in the North East of Scotland. I did know of Old Mill Customs in Insch but unsure if they are still trading as the website has disappeared.
Any recommended places would be much appreciated, cheers.
Colin
Removed headlining and door cards / carriers to add some insulation and sound deadening. Made good use of the various threads and guides on here but when putting it all back, didn't quite line up the headliner on the pax side and managed to strip the threads of the grab handle. :(
...dealt with before floor went down.
I didn't insulate under the floor. 12mm ply floor and vinyl I think is enough. I spent loads of money on insulation for the rest of the van, and now we keep the windows open because it's too warm! Probably wouldn't go as mad with insulation if I converted...
Carpet the exposed metalwork, cut pieces of 'camping mat' type stuff and fit them each night to insulate the windows and carry a window vac for any condensation on other windows .
This is what we do and it works really well
...all!
This weekend it's back to the camper conversion and one question I had which may hopefully help others is the 50mm and 100mm thermo insulation rolls. The 50mm Dodo is available in plentiful supply but the 100mm has been out of stock for ages (other brands available).
My question is...
It's very useful stuff to augment the insulation in cool boxes as well. Not had Hello Fresh for a while but I keep a few of the insulation packs for this.
Awesome thank you. It's a shame to take them out as they are full Sportline leather seats. I have read the odd bits on here of people dropping the ply directly on the OEM rubber insulated floor but I can't find any pictures of this being done
Insulate sides and roof, side bars with steps both waiting to be done towbar (done) passenger sliding side door, reversing camera probably more when I come across it
I solved a similar issue with 16mm cable on a Victron MPPT.
Once you have stripped back the insulation, slide some heat shrink down the cable and then use a Stanley knife to cut another "ring" of insulation about 3-4mm long by rolling the cable around along the blade.
Slide this ring up the...
Took my sliding door panel off to fit some better insulation. Found a rubber pipe which seems anchored at the bottom but top part is loose. Is this meant to go anywhere?
There is an XPS core on the floor, so you won’t need much extra thermal insulation.
Bonding a heavy floor all over with Sikaflex is probably going to dampen the sound anyway, and there isn’t much big flat panels on the van floor, so I would just go straight onto the van. The manufacturer is...
Put a blanket over the panels as they will be generating power in the daylight. Keep all the wires insulated until you put each connector on as well to prevent a short
It seems bad to me the conditions required. The ins costs are mad!
I am looking to get a T6.1 myself....
But, only the van and then get someone to insulate it, carpet it throughout, fit diesel heater and solar panel....then i would fit my own bed....
Whats stopping me from just insuring it as...
What would the insulation achieve?
It's not going to keep the battery significantly warmer if you are thinking about the charging below zero issue.
If you are thinking about spreading out the load or reducing rattles then I wouldn't advise using any insulation with a metal layer near high...
You say it’s a self build. I am sure the answer to this question is a massive yes but, just in case, you did fully sound deaden, thermal line, and insulate your van?
Only asking as his hasn’t been asked in this thread and would obviously help if you haven’t.
Not trying to be a d**k btw, as am...
