For anyone that finds this thread and is wondering, the grommet hole was much higher than I was expecting from the inside but glovebox out (not too bad a job) and you can poke your wire through and it'll come out above the blower fan motor. Then you can thread it down to the floor and route it...
So I know how to get to the grommet in the plenum chamber I think, how much stuff do I need to take off on the inside? There's some grey sound proofing stuff under the rubber matting ...
I need to get a 4mm² twin core cable through?
I take no credit nor offer any warranty for what follows. I just asked AI what they think as it does feel electrical, but I didn't know where to start:
I've searched and searched so posting new thread, T6.1, is this (grommet, see pic snapped from a YouTube vid of T6) still the route to take from engine bay to cab in 6.1 please?
yes you can do that, black cable to chassis and red to starter battery. . . . with fuse on the battery connection. you can cut the cable sorter aswell . .
...with the charger is a somewhat thick loom (carries both pos + neg 16mm2 cables) that needs to go through the engine firewall via a smallish grommet, under the dash trim and carpet to the underneath of the seat. I will remove the seat base to feed the cable tidily there via the hole in the...
Thanks for all the responses so far guys.
Splicing into the reverse wire and down through those grommets is probably the best plan of attack then.
I'll remove that rear under tray when I'm fitting the new side bars to have a look. Hoping I can get access without removing the whole bumper. 🤞
Think the reverse sensors are live all the time, even if they are not im not sure thats a good approach ??
There are grommets in the bottom of the rear quarter panels that exit under the van, if you follow the reverse sensor wiring loom it will take you too one
I think theres more than one IIRC...
...holes through both skins, open up the one inside so the 10mm nut can pass through and using the supplied hardware to bolt it on and shove a grommet in the hole. Nope. The tailgate is triple skinned in that area which means the studs are not long enough and even if they were the middle skin...
I've got the same job planned for tomorrow, feeding a couple of 12v LED light strings power wires through that barn door grommet into somewhere near the base of the wardrobe to get power from the Cerbo relays, while I'm in the wardrobe I'll be getting the solar cables ready for my new Renogy 220...
...patient particularly with getting head unit in. Cables went though dash, up pillar across in headliner and then behind cupboards through a grommet above right hand barn door to get outside.... I was talking to.an engineering firm to make me a threaded extension to increase stub length to...
Well @PhillH and everyone with the OMTEC VW Roof racks, with missing or worn out bolt covers......what you need are circular rubber grommets, with an interior width of 19.05mm. I bought a selection box from Amazon and the 19.05mm fit like a glove. This was the selection box I bought...
...Or the cables can be run down the side of the tailgate and an entry gland installed by the rear light. If you have barn doors the blanking grommets for a tailgate are ideal.
If I was to do it again I’d go inside the canvas to simplify routing and cable handling as the pop top is raised/lowered.
...fuse box.
I went down the a pillar and then poked the wires through the hole behind the panel of previously removed.
Yes. Pull that trim off by your yellow cross and you get to the end of the rubber bellow grommet thing.
