I just drive mine, ( 17, 204 dsg )will worry about a breakdown if and when. Currently on 130K - the DPF is almost full but thats expected at the mileage. Took out the 5 year warrenty as well which turned out to be a waste as it's never had any done...

Your not missing much ! - The temp gauge doesn't actually show you the correct temp anyway VW have built in a massive 'flat spot' so the gauge is pretty much useless anyway. Their is a graph floating around here somewhere.
Kombis are taxed as Commercial vans at a standard £250 . It just gets slightly complicated with regards to HMRC and personal use of a Kombi as they judge it to be a car.
The 80 L is still available from the factory - so pretty much everywhere else can order it - it's just that the 'UK importer' has decided that its customers are too stupid to choose through a long option list and decided to shrink it .....hence the options list shrinking !!!

It dosn't work if your already braking - as it assumes you've already spotted the obstruction.
When it does work - you get a big arrow flash up on the MFD , a loud beep and it hits the brakes full on for a second or two- it certainly wakes you up if your not expecting it !
Its been a while since I did mine but from memory the code to allow the tailgate to close from the button is 123456.
