...interested, it's been quite a rollercoaster so far 😂
The belt that snapped- which I was relieved was the alternator belt and not the cambelt- got jammed into the cambelt and, well you can guess the rest... 😭
But the sob story ends there as I have a lovely 'new' t5.1, 2015 only 61k miles on...
I'll keep it short.
VwT6 - 2016
108,000
CAAB engine.
Cambelt and waterpump done this week. Zero faults or issues on vcds or otherwise until today in the entire time I've had the van.
Passed every MOT its had.
Great van.
Daily driver.
Errors taken from calista OB2 (note...same on VCDS also...
I can’t see a professional garage pretending to change a cambelt, it’s just not worth their reputation. Components are date stamped so I’d say your water pump failed in a few years if it was still the original you could prove it hadn’t been chnaged.
You can remove the top belt cover fairly...
Surely the amount they are charging would be noticeable, what i mean is yearly stuff like service & MOT is normally a few hundred quid but add a cambelt and waterpump to that and your into 4 figure sums !!
...The answer was 140K and no time limit but it still sits on my mind. My T6 runs well and even though I could pay out the £1k for the cambelt and water pump I would then be worried that they actually did the job properly and then I start to get problems with the van for the first time ever...
...just that code pop up on my 2017 2ltr 204 been sat over xmas so I've cleared the fault and put some dipitane in it and gave it a blast in low gears high revs for a few motorway miles could be an expensive garage visit as i need a big service (cambelt) and front discs and pads fingers crossed...
Cambelt change now advised by VW at 120K, search on here and you'll find lots of info.
This brings UK into line with European practice, although should be qualified by regular inspections.
That is the going rate I think, my daughter had an Audi A1 done 3 years ago and that is same quote.
My T28 was done at a local garage by previous owner Sept 2025 not genuine parts and was £915 inc Vat and they used Dayco Timing Belt and Pump kit apparently they are not good parts, but at least...
...considered that. I've just lost power steering to add to the problems too. I need to check the auxilary belt tomorrow. If that's failed, I don't want it causing cambelt damage. I suppose the loss of power steering too could be linked to the electrical system & could be caused by battery failure ?
Hey all!
We got a T6 that had a cambelt failure, no other damage then one broken roller from a valve.
Took the head off. Had it checked, mesured the piston height and so on. Head went back on with new gasket and new belt.
Now it wont start.
No other fault codes then some dpf codes, its removed...
Just to close out where I got to on price. I ended up using Midland VW.
I paid £860 for:
Cambelt
Water pump
Aux belt
New Tensioner
Crank Shaft Seal
The Aux/ Tensioner/ seal were done just because they were in the area and the price was good. All VW genuine parts too.
Oil pump belt change so early is nice precaution measure but maybe a bit of an overkill. Unbelievable prices comparing to the cost of the service parts but that what you pay for an hour for the work.
Hello,
Long story short planning on doing my own cambelt change on my 2017 T6 CXHA.
I’ve studied Vag tech video and read manufacturer instructions but have couple questions.
1) Is it essential to loosen both Camshaft pulley and also high pressure fuel pump one?
2) I have noticed in videos...
