It may be different in Aus but those problematic EGR coolers were phased out in the UK with the demise of the T5. If you’re buying a T6.1 the EGR cooler revision is not a concern as it used to be.

If the EGR spits its dummy it’ll cause various problems regardless of bi or single turbo variants.
You mention a 180, but that is equally a bi-turbo; it is the euro5 version of the 204 (euro6).
I have a 180bi-tdi, love it, had no issues (touch wood).
