I have just installed what was sold as an OEM oil filter. Once the engine is up to temperature there is a weep of oil from the screw top. Or that is what it strongly looks like as it's from above the oil cooler. I have installed new seals but my question is are they all equal in quality. It...
So, after some extensive mod's and a long vacation with the caravan i am still not happy about the performance of the van.
In hot weather while towing the caravan the engine still runs too hot for my liking, even with an oil cooler.
I have now ordered the following;
- Forge Intercooler
- New...
Good point about splitting the jobs up for each side of the engine. Might have to consider it to spread the cost.
Ye DMF, clutch kit with slave cylinder, fwd crank seal, cambelt and water pump. Also gear box oil and inspection of splines and gearbox mounts. All currently on the quote
Will add...
A late reply from me as I've had a busy week in work,
Anyway, the seals came out with the help of this little chap, which is a can opener from a Swiss army knife.
I pried them from the underside of the cover at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions and they came out lovely.
I had new seals...
The odd one is starting to crop up on 5.1s, but they'ye got age, mileage, and a history of God-knows-what-oil under their belts.
I plan to change mine at every 2nd cam belt change but your suggestion to do it with the seal is probably wise.
All the T6 vans use the same DSG gearbox.
The DSG TPI covers a crack in the casting.that causes a oil leak.
The cooler has two O ring seals that are to be replaced if the cooler is removed.
Keep us posted.
It’s obviously been leaking for a long time as you can see where it has been cleaned off.
It appears to be gear oil which means the level would have dropped and that could have caused damage.
It’s not a good indicator for a well maintained vehicle, keep looking and avoid even if they offer to...
...started leaking at 30k miles.
£3200 later with a 50% good will from VW we had a new haldex diff fitted. Only for that to start leaking 30k later.... Now 2 years on... No problem the tech said they have revised the oilseal!!!!
So my original diff just needed an oils seal..
That's progress.
It drives beautifully, 250 ish and a bucked or torque, DSG and engine remap.
EGR, AdBlue & DPF may or may not have been lost somewhere along the way.
If / when it gives up the ghost, it will be reconditioned for the fraction of the cost of a replacement, with the addition of a reconditioned...
Thanks Dell,
Already done a clean and I have a rough area of where it looks to be coming down from.
It’s not an obvious source, so I think it needs to go into a specialist for a look.
...in excess of 120C, highest ever recorded was 136C, now it barely gets above 100C
I thought it has started burning oil, but after its last oil change on Wednesday, I know where the oil is going, front and rear main oilseals appear to be shot, so that’s the next job on the list.
So far so good…
The whole bloody bill wasn't!!
New clutch, DMF, Slave, rear main oilseal, and all the related fluids etc and a 4 wheel alignment and all the labour, cost me £1600. I have no real idea whether that is reasonable or not. Too late if it isn't.
I have quite a lot of oil, low down, where the plastic intercooler pipe joins the rubber pipe that enters the turbo. Is this a sign that the turbo seals have blown or is it common. Van runs fine and pipes are not split it's leaking from the joint.
Any advice welcome.
Thats a pitty, not much help yet. Not too many TSI owners I guess
In the meanwhile, I've ordered the waterpump and some other stuff thats required for replacing, hoping this will do the job.
Have an appointment on the 30th of March.
Ordered Parts List (VW T6 2.0 TSI - Engine Code: CJKB /...
...when checking the MOT history.
Nearside Front Shock absorbers has light misting of oilOil leak, but not excessive Front crankshaft oilseal.
The current owner has said that they have not had these fixed.
How worried should i be about these. The van has <40k miles on it at the moment...
Not necessarily a good thing, ball, roller and needle bearings are guaranteed to deteriorate through brinelling and oilseals dry out.
It’s a tiny leak, monitor it, I suspect it’s brake fluid from the slave cylinder.
You could do a simple flash point test; put equal small quantities of the...
