Wolfrace Scorpio

Hi,

Currently have Wolfrace Munich 18" - really like the design though as odd as it sounds they look smaller than other 18" alloys - I think Silver perhaps has that affect a little?
Wolfrace Eurosport - Munich (Satin Black / Polished Face and Undercut), Wolfrace Black Alloy Wheels,

The polish has flaked really badly and after protracted discussions hopefully getting to a point where they will be replaced. Choice being offered is Munich's again or Scorpio Black and polished:
18 Wolfrace Eurosport Scorpio Black Polished for VW T4

A search for Scorpio only brings back one result on this forum and that's a picture of just the Alloy. Google images shows a couple of Transporters with Scorpio's but they're not fab images or links to non existent images...

Don't suppose anyone has these on their van and can upload a picture? On a White van would earn serious beers owed :)

Thanks in advance

Reference your comment about the polished aspect flaking:
I had a set of Wolfrace Entourage Polished/Gloss Black finish and they did exactly the same, and the general quality of the wheel finish was pretty poor from new. I did contact Wolfrace, but they weren't interested as i'd expect to be honest.
The next set of wheels I purchased were much higher end and 3 times the price of the Wolfrace, but yet again the polished fronts didn't last more than 2 months through our salty winters. After a reply from the company in the States explaining that they don't advise the use of polished wheels through the winter, and don't cover winter use under the warranty.
In conclusion, I don't go near diamond cut/polished wheels anymore. They look amazing, but just don't last.

oh no
That me knackered then!
I should have stayed with standard VW 204 editions!
@ahappychappie how long did you have your Munich’s before the polished started to flake?
I agree on the Munich’s on 18” do appear smaller than other 18”!

This is my first van, previous cars i've never even thought about changing alloys - manufacturer oem quality seems considerably better.

I think you're the guru of all things shiny and clean..!? Do sealant products add any protection, I assume not given you've experienced limited life on previous sets...

Just short of a year they started to flake. In the last month or so they've deteriorated rapidly, i'll post some pics, they look shooking.

Defo look smaller, I was packed next to a van with black alloys, I assumed they were 20" as looked bigger yet they were 18" with exactly the same tyre profile, it's strange.

Funny isn't it. You're exactly spot on with previous Cars and not changing wheels. I've owned loads of cars, and the factory wheels were perfectly sufficient, but since owning vans, i've changed wheels several times, and always looking even now (myself and several other members bounce links to wheels on WhatsApp so many times, it's now become the daily norm:whistle:)

As for adding any protection to polished wheels, that gave me no more longevity than unprotected. I think the issue is, this style of wheel are painted and then often machine cut to give that polished look, then lacquered, this can often end up with very precise/sharp edges where they are polished, and the amount of lacquer on the edges just isn't sufficiently thick enough to protect. The smallest chip will just let water in from pressure washing (worming), plus the fact many people use hash acids, stiff wheel brushes, and cheap car wash gangs ends up not giving this style of wheel much of a fighting chance.
Saying all that, my own Motorhome has genuine Fiat polished alloys. I've owned it from new, never used any chemicals on the wheels, never had it touched by anyone but me, and never used it in the winter, and at 2 years old they are well and truly ready for a re-furb, so maybe the style of wheel is just not fit for purpose, hence why I now stay clear altogether, any buy none polished wheels.

Ok, have answered my own question, but given above next question is which look best - stick with replacing like for like Munich's (pic 1) or change to Scorpio's (pic 2). Let me knoepw what you think looks best please...

I really like my Munich's but have a constant doubt that they look too small...

I prefer the Munich's, but then I don't think many 5 spokes suit the T6, even though I love how a 5 spoke looks when in motion.

Your's don't look too small, it's just because they have the Black background, and the tyres, meaning it's only the polished aspect that stands out.

Hi ahappychappie,
I have the Wolfrace turismo, and after reading some post about flaking, I decided to sprayed mine with plasti dip, one to protect them and the other was to change the colour, plastic dip is spray on vinyl that can be peeled off once you have had enough, smilier two vinyl wrap, but with out the expense.IMG_8125.jpg

Thanks all, last night convinced myself to go for the Scorpio's as something different. Er, now back to Munich's thanks to you guys!!. When I purchased my alloys first time round I lost several days of my life trying to decide, now a forced decision of two and still struggling!

I will accept the replacements, see how they get on, looks like limited life really so perhaps save in the meantime for a set of genuine VW's. The same pot for LED's, front splitter etc, lol.

@Tourershine, looks like no real point in protecting but thanks for the thoughts etc.

@Bryan1971, as above but will check out nonetheless so thanks for the suggestion.
