Which suspension for a T6.1 - spring versus coil overs ?

Guys need help!

Buying a new T6.1 panel van and having it converted to a kombi, but need to spec the suspension with the converter…..

Just been there today and drove one of their vans (VanHaven) which had eibach 50mm lowering springs fitted with standard shocks. It drove really nice but I’m wanting to fit a 10.5 rear wheel and the springs just don’t drop the van enough.

I am thinking of fitting a set of coil overs, probably konishort shocks??, as these were recommended to a friend via CRS performance.

This is where I’m struggling as don’t want to compromise the ride and haven’t driven a t6.1 with coil over???

Is the ride going to be too harsh….? Reading a lot on here that it would be a better ride? Please help guys

Can you please advise/help?? Or if anyone is Teesside based a little drive around the block to feel the ride ……I’d be really grateful

In actuality, Steve is the best looking suspension specialist I have ever had the pleasure of giving my hard earned to.

There are many providers of suspension who are trade members on the forum so worth looking around - often it comes down to location.

The reason I went to @CRS Performance is because their background is setting up race car suspension - they understand how to make the suspension work for your needs, rather than just selling a product.

I dont think any of us are racing our transporters but the basic principles are the same.


The other thing to consider is that suspension is a very personal thing and with transporters it is often aesthetics as well as handling that is important. Some people want them slammed with 20” wheels which others find awful. Some cannot accept standard ride heights or mildly lowered.

My advice is speak to the vendors, go try a few different set ups then make your choice.

Would of thought the cost of a van haven van would cover decent suspension set up rather than a set of lowering springs with standard shocks

This is a valid point! Despite my comments on Steve @CRS Performance taking after his mother’s side of the family in the looks department, he absolutely considers the costumer’s needs and aspirations before proposing a solution (note, solution not product) to meet their needs. Steve fits a variety of solutions, each catered to individual needs. Definitely not a “sell what’s on the shelf” outfit!!!

We are finding more and more of these hi spec van specialists cutting corners and supplying cheap springs on 80 k plus vans. A little short sighted as the first thing a new owner will experience is the crashy poor quality ride. We aren’t local to you but clients drive from all corners of the uk to let us sort out their vans . The biggest thing to check is that when dealers offer you a particular solution , make sure it’s Something you need not something they happen to sell . There is a big difference .
