Wheel Spacer Chat

Don’t think there is a single thread about wheel spacers, so setting this one up for general wheel spacer chit chat.

My van is stinking, so no photos just yet, but I have just fitted my H&R wheel spacers, which I bought from someone on the forum a few months back. They are 21mm front and 25mm rear, which bolt to hub then wheel bolts to spacer. Fitted to my T32 with 30mm lowered (measures as 40mm drop though) Sportline springs and standard shocks for the time being. Wheels are black powder coated Davenport’s with Falken Wildpeak’s in 235/65/17.

These spacers really make a huge difference to put the Davenport’s where they need to be. Literally just in line with the arches, both front and back, with the rugged aspect of these AT tyres just poking beyond. Absolutely loving the look. It’s also resolved the slight rubbing when on max lock parking which I was hoping for.

The absolutely unexpected side effect is a strange one for me though. I can understand marginally better handling from the wider track, especially over speed bumps as van clears more on central bumps, but I really wasn’t expecting the T32 suspension to feel less crashy over normal bumps. It’s just so much more comfortable now and I don’t know why?

The only other thing I have done is fitted new front calipers, discs and pads. One caliper was sticking but I can’t see why that would improve the suspension? Only other thought being that maybe the jacking up has relocated a spring better maybe? I am grasping at straws with that though.

Has anyone experienced this after fitting spacers?

I've got spacers on my bus, H&R ones I think.

Fitted by the previous owner.

I didn't realise until the wheels come off to do tyres... I think they make the standard steels look a bit better.

Shocks we're done by CRS: Koni shocks + springs? H&R.... Maybe the spacers were too?

@CRS Performance not sure if you remember the van from the reg? FY67ZTB?

I've got a set of Dutchy Banded steels, a set of T6 Sport line rims and a set of Cantatas...... Which are all way wider that these steels.

So I'm assuming I'd need to remove the spacers.? Not tried yet, so not sure.

Leaving the steels on, as it's the wifes Daily.

in just found these pics . . . . when i had the pads & discs done - all round.

im not sure if the spacers are the same size front & rear- I've not measured them.

The H&R wheel spacer / adaptors are bolt on parts as per pic above .

we usually use 21 mm front and 25 mm rear to get the better look < ( rear body work is wider than the front )

They are T U V approved ,

Not sure on the suitability for Steel wheels however ??

I have 15 /20 on my Shuttle and the Velle will have the same. I run 235/65/17 AT tyres. I originally did it as the Devonports were "lost" when added the LV front splitter thing and fancy rear bumper. Then I switched to AT tyres and just kept them.

I use the ones with longer bolts and get them from Zach Ring on FB as hes a friendly fella.

Is that standard 16s ?

If so it looks a million times better with the spacers.

I bought mine from Wheel Spacers | PCD Spacers | PCD Adapters | Centre Bore… | PCD Parts

20mm on front (bolt-through) and 30mm on the rear (bolt-on type) came with all the correct bolts required (rears re-use the original bolts to bolt the wheel to the spacer). Bought kind of as a stop-gap until I got new wheels and/or lowered, but it looks so much better now, I'm contemplating sticking with just the spacers...

This is a 2017 Caravelle exec with the standard (-20mm suspension) and standard 17" Cascavel alloys...

I’ve just put on some 25mm on the back and 15mm on the front and I’m quite happy with it. Although talking to my nephew who runs 20mm rear 10mm front, and may do a swap, that might change.
The only issue is that the front bolts need to be re-torqued each week as they are stretching, they are 45mm aftermarket bolts. I’ve contacted the supplier but don’t expect any reply.
The aesthetics are improved, I hate rims that sit too far inboard and dead cat gaps between wheels and arches.

Not a Transporter but spotted this bad boy on YouTube while contributing to the music thread in the Pub section on here, anyway...
