just found this app called Whatthreewords. The developers have divided the globe into 3m x3m squares and given each one a unique set of random words. I’ve only just looking at it but if you wanted to save a wild camp location or your house is hard for delivery drivers to find because the postcode is too vague then it looks like it could be very useful.

Has anyone else used it and have any comments/suggestions.

The combination of words can be quite funny and strangely apt. For instance my wife has a thing about collecting large pine cones on our travel and one of the combinations of words for our house include cones and pine.

Wiring.mime.younger!! Currently sat in our favourite little bar in the middle of Rhodes Old Town :)

It's a great app, been using it for well over a year now. Use it at work for discreet Comms around locations of individuals and also as a DofE instructor for locating missing children out on hikes etc.
It would be good for exactly locating mates at say Busfest as it would give the exact location of your van!

I've never heard of this before and just had a look. It seems great, what a clever idea. Does seem slightly creepy though, as with @Markymark the words have a connection in 2 of the locations I'm frequently in

As $immo says, it’s very useful for accurate description of locations. There would be a reasonable use of it within this forum to describe camping spots, wild camping in particular.

Tilts.silently.quench is a good spot for a night on the south side of ullswater.

An OS grid reference (NY535131) gives a really good idea of where it is and to be honest, in a can you’d work it out. For wild camping in a tent the accuracy of what3words would be much more specific.

Additionally, a google map pin drop would suffice provided you have data signal and can drop a pin where you want to using google maps.

To wrap my post with back reference to $immo, we use what3words with our DofE candidates sometime when describing known, reasonable, wild camp spots. One group spent 4 days wandering around describing wild camp spots using what3words and top trump style criteria as their project.

Just checked my address. arsehole.lives.here :speechless:
So I put that in, like you do, and because there isn't such an address it changed it to resold.lives.nerd which points to Alsager near SOT, where I used to live :D So that did in a way describe me
