What breakdown cover do you use for you campervans?

Just got my Green Flag breakdown insurance renewal through for my 2016 campervan, never had a claim.
It’s increased by over 58% to £232.60 inc’ 90 days European cover.

I realise that premiums increase on an older vehicle but this is a big jump, time to look elsewhere.
Out of interest I went to Green Flag online as a new customer and got quoted the same cover for £123, less than I paid last year.
I thought it was illegal to load up existing customers these days?

Unless there is a funded and functional body to oversee and correct these practices, one that is fully removed from the industry they are looking at, then bad practice will always continue whatever the ‘rules’.
The cuts of such bodies started over a decade ago and we see in virtually every strain of life now that profit is prioritised over harm.
All customers can do is walk away from these companies and spread the message.

I’ve always found it cheaper to ring them and haggle. The agents on the phone are on commission and have a certain amount of discretion. Also if you go through a comparison site, money supermarket/compare the meerkat etc, you can often drop on, make sure you check the policy wording though, as it can be a cut down version that’s offered through the comparison sites.

Just tried Moneysupermarket and it couldn’t quote the same package, odd, almost like they’re trying to f&ck the customer over:thumbsdown:

I pay a monthly fee (£18 i think) for a nationwide bank account which gives me european breakdown for the policy holders not the vehicle, mobile phone insurance, travel insurance and few other bits

I have that too.....
I wonder if they would honour it if you were a family of 6 or 7 with a nominal joint account? Think, all of you pay a few quid into a multiple joint account.
Or is there a limit on the number of joint account holders ??

Last years Green Flag Euro Plus gave me 90 days European cover with no max’ journey length as far as I can see.
This years Euro Plus renewal gives 90 days cover but with a max’ trip length of 30 days in Europe.
Has anybody else noticed this change or have I made an error?

My current cover is for a total of 90 days, no individual trip limit. It’s due for renewal in October, so see what happens then.

Green Flag want £200 this year for EU travel 90 days cover
Money supermarket Green Flag. £60 with a £40 excess, £86 with no excess. 90 day European cover but limited to 30day maximum trip. They also have changed the trailer cover. Previously if they would recover the trailer if the actual trailer broke down, e.g. wheel bearing collapsed. But now they will only recover the trailer if the towing vehicle breaks down. So trailer failure isn’t covered.

It’s not exactly the same cover, as has been mentioned previously the trip length is restricted to 30 days.
I don’t see the logic. Why would a traveller on a 90 day trip be at more risk than somebody on 3x 30 day trips?

Just phoned Green Flag regarding my Europlus cover renewal.
90 days total trip length, no specifying dates or number of trips plus UK cover.
Last year; £146.99
Renewal offer; £232.60
Best price over the phone; £209.34, apparently a recalculation:thumbsdown:, no explanation, no reduction in cover.
Turned it down for now.

Just trawled through the comparison sites, just about to give up and went to GoCompare and selected Vans, ran a comparison and got Green Flag UK & European cover with 90 day European Zone 2, no trip length limitation. £40 Excess and no Home Assistance.
£62.26.
When I spoke on the phone Green Flag told me that removing Home Assistance wasn’t possible!

Right pull up a chair, get comfy.
Just got off the phone to Green Flag. My renewal arrived this morning, this is an "XS" policy, i.e. there's a £40 xs/callout fee when you ring them. It's more or less an all singing all dancing policy, including trailer cover and 90 days European cover, the only thing I don't have is homestart. There are no restrictions on the length of a European trip, it can be one trip of 90 days or several trips upto a maximum of 90 days in total. This is important to me and was the main reason for my call to them. So how much is all this costing me? The princely sum of £68.22. up from £57 last year. Yes please

That’s the policy I bought, they don’t suggest it over the phone though, I had to go through a comparison site and keep digging to get it out of them.
Just goes to show how much the Homestart cover is costing insurance companies, I suspect due to owners ignorance or saving money on servicing.
