What breakdown cover do you use for you campervans?

Hi,

Looking to renew my breakdown cover as LV Britannia Rescue put up their prices this year on my renewal and want to charge £30 extra as it has a private plate on.

Been looking into alternatives and struggling to find cover for that is campervan specific. I’ve noticed that some companies do not cover for vehicles with living accommodation inside.

Just thought I’d ask for recommendations as others must have had he same issues?

Thanks.

I use the RAC through Swinton Ins but never needed it. My daughter used RAC on their T4 when they went to Croatia last year and needed them twice…they were excellent in responding them.

Reluctantly the AA after the RAC left me stranded for 15 hours a couple of years back. The size and weight means they accept it on a standard policy.

Green Flag. I've needed them three times over 10 years but not so much for a breakdowns. First was keys locked in car - entry gained with no damage. Second shredded tyre, couldn't get wheel nuts off after garage had over tightened them. Problem solved with some determination by the recovery team. Third with the T6 last year when it got bogged down on a wet campsite - towed off with no damage. The response has always been speedy and knowledgeable. Up north they use a local contractor. As I said I can't comment on breakdown type service.
The renewal for personal cover (due next week) for Mrs A & me in any vehicle is £112 via May Day caravan & motorhome cover. This doesn't include home start but does cover both of us in any vehicle. All three of the above call outs were for our vehicles with private plates.

I use autoaid. As it covers me as the driver in any car and will recover me back to my work from anywhere in UK. Works perfect for me having more than one vehicle. Hadn't made use of them until last year when I needed to twice for the van!! Perfect service from them and quick response.

Like most breakdown companies, they just use local recovery firms

I get mine my through my bank account with Nationwide, think it's £13 a month for the account and it includes, breakdown, phone insurance, travel insurance and a few other bits I think.

Green flag via caravan and motorhome club for me too. A very useful feature is the dual journey cover which guarantees getting to your holiday destination and getting you home if your vehicle can’t be fixed.

Another one for autoaid £65 for annual personal cover in any car, add your partner for £10 and cars over 16 years old for another £20. seems the best value, been with them for years now

I forgot to mention the dual journey cover.

Rescuemycar. Personal cover for all members of the family in any car/van up to 3.5 ton. And 6m if I remember correctly. Never had to use them so no idea if they are any good!!

Just gone with the AA too while they had a ‘sale’ on.

I forgot to renew VW Assistance (AA) on the golf, didn’t have any recovery on the bike which is optimistic considering it’s Italian, and I dropped recovery from my LV insurance on the van because I went for personal (not vehicle) cover with the AA.

One payment rather than two (or three if I ever got round to covering the bike separately) and quite a saving to be fair.
This is a new customer price so might be shopping around again in 12 months.

Only other consideration based on price and Which reviews was GEM.

Been an AA member since the 1970's family members now and most if not all boxes ticked. I would be surprised if they would come to my home, they do not tend to drive LR these days! If the police have been called out we usually have to collect them that is after talking them through to the beginning of the access tracks so they can park up they appear to have aversion to walking:laugh:

It's £18 a month now but the breakdown part of the policy covers you in Europe as well.
