I have a Tilley wide brim sun hat which is really well made but moderately expensive by my standards! They make a waxed cotton version.
My father in law told me they can be eaten by an elephant, passed, washed and reused though I’ve not tried it!

Would seem the logical choice but its a little difficult holding a umbrella while packing away in the rain.

Probably is, I haven't seen that one. I've had the plain duck cotton one for years, and although it will eventually absorb water, it is enough for a few hours rain before it feels too damp.
I would definitely go for a Tilley Waxed Cotton if I needed it to be waterproof.
It's about this time of year, with August Bank Holiday approaching, that you realise that the weather is going to be crap, and we had our summer 8 weeks ago
I have been wearing one of these for ages - fine except that the rain still goes down the neck!
