Warranty void!

Ok, update.
The fault was the ACC unit or radar sensor behind the bumper. NOT the modifications or Alpine media system.

As I have made a complaint via VW about the garage who investigated the fault I have a feeling they dislike me now. Body language by 2 of the service managers.
I think they feel silly now it wasn't after market mods that was the problem. They took the front bumper off and the dashboard (see video) which caused me anxiety.

Why not just swap the sensor to see if it is faulty than remove the dashboard?

I'm being charged £276 outside warranty work. Not sure why. I don't want confrontation so will take it up with VW.
I was charged £138 in July for first diagnostic telling me the rear view mirror was changed to aftermarket mirror and the sensor in the mirror lost communication with front radar sensor.
There's no sensor other than rain sensor. They tell me that was incorrect what they told me when I queried it. I was right. So, I am looking to claim those funds back as T6.1 is under warranty and it was the factory sensor at fault. What's people's thoughts?

Hopefully you paid for those incorrect diagnostic sessions on a credit card...?

Yes, I'm paying the £276 this afternoon. I'll then take it up with VW customer services. We have been in touch. They contacted the garage on my behalf in September. Spoke to a rep. Broken English. Must be German but was helpful. No point confronting the Service manager today over it. Will collect my van and then contact VW customer again. They will be updated anyway as they instructed the garage to ring me.

Hopefully youll get a refund. If a solicitor or architect gave you incorrect advice you'd be liable for a refund and any consequential costs. Its no difreeent for any other expert, and the dealers do promote themselves as 'experts' by any sensible definition or the term, ie, the only properly qualified, resourced and manufacturer backed place to take your vehicle for work.

If they arse you about you can make it the credit card company's problem.

3 year warranty expires June 2026. Imagine this happening outside the warranty. Even next June T6.1 would only be 3 years old. Yet, 2.5 years in Radar sensor needs replacing.

So, the diagnostic fee I've read some where would be covered by warranty if the fault was a factory defect. They said at the time in July that because I removed the factory rear view mirror and replaced it with an after-market mirror the warranty doesn't cover it. Only later they tell me that what they had said is incorrect. Why are they fobbing me off? Warranty work doesn't come out of their pockets.

Warranty work is a good earner for them. The retail stuff is the cherry on top, but the warranty work keeps the lights on and the doors open.

There why there are so few Honda car dealers- its difficult for the aftersales side to make a worthwhile profit when such a reliable product puts a crimp on rhe warranty income.

I suspect that in your case Smiley you've encountered one or the new breed of belled, the sort that knows feck all but still has an opinion anyway.

Very interested to know with out speaking to them what I've just mentioned above. The service manager has explained the fees. I haven't yet understood his explanation. I need to chat with VW customer services themselves.
